Xbox has gone Kaput!

Just gone to startup the xbox to watch a DVD only to be greeted by one flashing red light and an e74 error on the screen! Have tries all the unplugging and checking connection things, but it's clearly cream crackered!

2 years out of warranty according to Microsoft's site. Pissed off to say the least. ANywayI won't be on for quite a while now as can't afford to buy a new one at the moment. Even more pissed off that I only just bought the New cod maps and have spent less than an hour playing them!

Arse, bks, fk.

Just had to get that off my mind. ANyone know of any cheap deals on the new ones?

Get an ebay fix kit and repair it and then plonk it on ebay to make abit of money of it.

Not sure on the going rate of Xbox's but i think this might be a ok deal.

This is a bit naughty, but i did it and it worked. Take it into the store you bought it from and say Microsoft told you to say its a code red and they might replace it.

Is one of those ebay kits likely to do the job? I thought they were for red ring of death, however I only have one flashing red light?

I would give this a try, unfortunately I bought it from Woolworths though.

Exactly - cover it in blankets, force it to overheat so that it causes the three red lights...then get a replacement free from Microsoft!

It's nearly six years old, so well out of even the extended warranty.

Mine went last night as well.

Started crashing and then after a few restarts, RROD.

Over three years old so I'm not going to complain too much.

I suppose both the PS3 and current Xbox are going to be around for a while - not worth hanging on for the next gen stuff?

Supposedly one red light means a problem with something attached to the xbox rather than the unit itself. Could be the hard drive.

If you're getting an E74 error that means the solder around the gpu has cracked, you can fix this with the x clamps fix, however there's a good chance it'll go again.

Not always it could even be your cable to tv, could also be the graphics steppers, get the secondary code by holding connect then pressing eject, if you dont know what i mean google xbox secondary code.

I've tried it with everything removed including the hardrive. I've also tried a different HDMI lead. I ordered one of the X clamp kits for £3 off ebay so should have that tommorrow. If that doesn't work I think I might just scrap gaming for the forseeable future.

Same happend to me. Sold it on eBay as broken and for spares. If you want to listen to the devil, Game stores will give you a discount off a new model when you trade in an old console, get yours repaired and get rid. Risk going to hell.

Mine did this a few times and it even popped a 'mode not supported' message on my television. I restarted it and it worked fine.

I traded it in about a month ago though for a newer one so i'm probably going to hell (it worked on the day in the store when they checked it).

Not if you fix it properly. Fed up with people spouting this rubbish on forums. I've fixed about 12+ xboxes and only one had it happen again, and that was down to the numpty dropping it. If done properly, it's a decent fix (1+ years anyway)

Yea, well done. Little Jonny from the orphanage, you know the one, the one in the middle of no where with nothing to do. Well he's been saving up for years as he can't afford a new XBOX360. He'll most likely purchase your bodged secondhand BOX of misery. And we now know that console will only last a year so you've ruined his and all his orphan friends lives...for ever!

Good news! My xclamp kit arrived yestersday and after around an hour my Xbox was back up and running. It might only be a temporary fix but it's still a fix for now!

Sure if reflowed with the correct equipment then it won't happen again, however the X clamps fix from ebay is simply replacing the clamps and reapplying paste,in my experience this WILL go wrong again.
