I'm booked on a track day next week and want to get some footage. I have a Kodak Playsport so it's nice and small and light (http://shop.kodak.co.uk/store/ekconseu/en_GB/pd/PLAYSPORT_Video_Camera__Zx3/productID.170164000). It has one of those standard screw fitments.

The track day small print says cameras need to be mounted properly (i.e. no suction cups). Given this is such a small light camera will the suction cup thing be enforced or are they generally allowed?

I'm going to have a passenger so I'm kind of restricted as to what I can use.....and my car has bucket seats so can't use one of those mount which attaches to the metal bars on the headrest.

What do people use?
Thanks in advance.

Yep that rule is a standard item repeated in all briefings and you should not be allowed on track with a suction mount - obviously the marshals may miss one but get on dog cam or another supplier and buy a solid one - the rules are for your (and your passengers) safety

try the handle bar mount for a mountainbike fitted to the passenger grab bar / coat hanger (aka the jesus bar).
This is pretty secure and you get some in car coverage, i.e. changing gear and faster cars passing on your right
Assume you have a wide angle lense camera of course.

Is the method of installing a "spreader bar" in the car (in a two seater) and thn clamping a camera to that?

If so where would one get one of these? Have googles like crazy!

I don't have that kind of money for what is really just a bit of fun - I'm not that serious about it. I already have the camera, just thought it would be nice to get some footage....especially if the wife stoves it into a Ferrari!

That's not a bad idea.

I would prefer to have the camera mounted centrally but my car is a saloon and I can't think of a way to get it mounted between the two front seats without using a 'harness bar' which is a pretty much permanent install which I don't want. It's also expensive.

I like the idea of using a roll bar mount to clamp onto the grab handle though. A downside may be if the handles are sprung, but I guess you could pack them out with something like foam or a tissue/rag/newspaper or something so that it's held firmly at the fullest extent of it's travel.

Does it have to be in the car?

I was a bit worried about damaging the interior with mounts in the CSL so I take the front plate off and bolt the camera to the bumper behind where the number plate normally sits.

I have also in the past got away with using a suction mount with a bullet cam and then strapping it back to a solid part of the car.
