Exhaust flexi pipe - '04 1.6 Focus

A friend has an '04 1.6 Focus, and the exhaust flexi pipe is leaking. (I'm fairly sure it's a MK 1)

He has been quoted £280 to repair it.

I had a quick 'Google' and it would appear that on the 1.6, the entire manifold has to be replaced as well.

Does this sound right?

Is there a cheaper option?

I did this on my 1999 1.6 Focus, manifold and flexi are all one piece but it's a simple enough job for anyone with a bit of mechanical ability.

any decent custom exhaust place will be able to chop out and replace just the flexi for about 75 quid.
