Beretta A400 Action
Discussion
So, I was up at Churchill's today and had a play with a rather nice little Beretta A400 Action (with kick-off) and really enjoyed it!
Have fancied an automatic 2+1 for a while now. The long and the short of it is that I fancy adding it to my cabinet (to go along side a Browning B125) and an unnamed 410.
Anyone had any experience of this?
Also, am I likely to get laughed off a game shoot with the browning and beretta as a pair (giving me potentially 5 shots initially) and having my loader dealing with them both for me? Or will I be better to get another over and under?

Berretta Automatics are great guns. And if you want one then I highly recommend getting one. But not for use on the game field, autos are frowned on for driven game. Perfect though for pigeon shooting, rabbit shooting etc. not for sporting driven game though. And do you need a pair of guns on the shooting field? You will only need to double gun if you are shooting big numbers. And if you can afford those sorts of days and a loader then you can afford a matching pair!
I shoot 300-400 bird days once or twice a season and no need for double gun or loader on them. A loader is good though if you're starting out shooting, to keep you safe and teach you what you're doing. More often than not a loader will be a very good shot who's doing the loading for some pocket money and the day out!
My loaders have always been excellent shots and offering advice if wanted (always is - they'll have forgotten more than I'll ever know!). I'd like a second gun with me, not just for numbers, but more because my B125 isn't exactly a spring chicken (don't know exact age but I'd guess over 20 years) and I'd be concerned of dropping a load of cash on a day to then have the thing stop working for some reason and just have wasted a few quid!
Fair enough about automatics not being cricket - did wonder. Would also love to get into rough shooting but don't have any contacts in my area (anyone know anywhere - south bucks?!).
Oh dear. Looks like I'm going to have to buy 2 more guns.

ETA: oh, and I know 20+ years isn't exactly old for guns...havig just been looking at over 100 year old guns!

Ohhhhh these look nice http://gunsforsale.shootinguk.co.uk/guns-for-sale/...
What sort of shooting are you doing Moose? Sounds to me like you would be better spending your money on a double barrel you can trust, keep it serviced and it should be fine. A double barrel will do all you need, even rough shooting because you can break it to climb over fences etc.
Autos are really designed for sitting in pigeon hides, or if your a game keeper and like to kill lots of things, all day, without fail, otherwise you won't sleep and you don't see anyone for weeks on end so you wouldn't ever need to break your gun for safety.

They are very nice! Too good for rough shooting. Spend £5k on a silver pigeon or such likes and you will get a lovely gun, that will see you out if you look after it. At the moment clays with a couple of game days a season, however I'd like to get into more rough shooting in my area...just not sure the best way to go about it!
Would also like to join a syndicate either this season or next depending on what's available at a reasonable distance from me here
(Oh, and £5k wasn't a budget as such - was rather taken by them however!)
I'd guess my B125 (was my grandfather's) should see me out also...but that's not the point

Sounds like you're doing the right things. You'll meet people at the clays who will be your entry into the shooting world. As said above, shooting times for finding a syndicate. If you get invited shooting, turn up smart, be yourself, don't try to pretend you know it all because I will be obvious that you don't. Most important, be safe and sporting with you shooting. You'll soon make a good impression and things will move on from there. Doesn't all come at once though. Maybe do some beating locally to get you into the right circles. Many beaters will have their own little shoots between them. And beaters days are good craic.

Bang on the money.
It was either buy another gun safe or have a clear out. Down to my uncle's Alicone and a made to measure Imperial Monte Carlo, neither of which I'll never sell.
If I find the money down the back of the sofa I'll be off to Brescia to pick up a 687EELL with a black walnut stock and forearm.
That'll do me.

Without screwing the thread up what's up doc?
Not quite sure. Possibly some gastritis and some bacteria. 2 weeks of feeling s
t and under the weather, not being able to eat much without pains in my stomach, constant headache that drugs won't cure, tiredness after any exercise (although this is better - last week I was f
ked nipping upstairs - I managed 50 English sporting today) and drink makes it all worse!Other than that, life's good!
Thanks for asking

you're probably right but that's what I keep telling myself if I want to justify the EELL
