Just had a thought, what about a boost button that upped the limiter on lorrys for 30-60sec?

I'm thinking it would solve the hippo racing problem.

Let's get DRS in there whilst we're at it. Open up the front and rear of the trailer during passing.

Knight Rider has really let himself go??!

But yes I agree they should be able to exceed the stupid 56mph in order to get an overtake completed.

If you could somehow stop the truck being overtaken activating DRS it would be a great idea. Sadly they would just do the same.
Would also need a limit to how many times it could be used.

Best option would be for them not to bother overtaking in the first place. If the limiter was calibrated accurately then then overtaking would not be possible.
Though some would no doubt still try. An active cruise control keeping more than the standard distance of 6 inches apart would be handy too.

It doesn't matter how accurately the limiter has been set if they are all set to different speeds.

Sadly some pricks at the supermarkets and others decided we don't give a st about other people and have the limiters set lower than 56 mph to save money so we have overtaking and the resulting congestion and danger !!
the current limiter law is from the EU and is 56 MPH max set speed our UK law is 60 mph !!! for hgvs on a motorway,
It would be possible if we leave the EU to make a law that limiters are set at say 65 mph and have a warning system that activates over 60mph which would be recorded by the tachograph so the driver could be disaplined for exceeding the speed limit without good reason...

Why not, as long as you are willing to pay for the increase in the price of everything to cover the additional wages required.

And where do all the trucks go during these times?

They should all go to The Racer's Edge and get a nice nitrous system installed.

I take it that you haven't driven a HGV then? I agree, a slightly faster truck overtaking a slightly slower one might cause issues with other motorists, but lets say for arguments sake that I'm driving an empty tractor and trailer and is on my way home or lo load it up or whetever, do you think it's a good Idea that I have to sit behind a fully laiden one up the hills and what not because I might cause inconvinience to a few cars? Everything in this business is a time crunch, and everything needs to be done asap, so there is no way I will waste my time driving behind a heavier truck if I'm lighter, I will pass. And if the other trucker has half a brain he will aid me in said pass, and therein lies the problem, very few does.

Parked outside hitch78's house.

How about we ban cars from 7am to 7 pm ? leave room for the trucks to deliver all the stuff everyone likes.

Surely the best answer is for everyone to stop rushing about so much and thus realising that getting "stuck" behind a lorry on a dual carriageway for 2 minutes is not really the end of the world after all? (not a truck driver!)
