If it's the 150/180 engine, unless it has a documented engine replacement in the last year or two run. All but the latest revision of the engine are a disaster, with excessive oil consumption and misfire/poor running issues
It's the 148bhp engine that appears in this car:http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2016...
and seemingly in the Skoda Fabia vRS and some VW Golfs. Are all these models to be avoided?

Before you take the plunge, Google "1.4 TSI timing chain". My Golf needed new timing chain & sprockets and a new clutch and mechatronic unit for the DSG box - within 18 months from new.
Fair point and I suffered similar with a Leon, but also Google "1.4 TSI EA211" - the new version mentioned in my post is back to a cambelt and appears far more reliable. va1o said:

Can you please point me to a link to this particular engine? What S7Paul referred to above is making me think about staying with Japanese.S7Paul said:
Good, and long overdue too. Have they done anything to improve the 7-speed DSG yet?
There is a newer version of the 7-speed DSG fitted to the likes of the facelift Audi S3 and Golf R. Replaces the old but very good 6-speed DSG.But I think in the likes of the Ibiza it's still the 'old' 7-speed version. I would stick to the Manual 'box in these as it suits the 1.4 TSI nicely.

So is the EA211 offered since 2012 the one with the cambelt instead of the chain? When was the chain driven version superseded?
I don't think the Ibiza got the EA211 until around 2014. SEAT market this version as the 'ACT' since it has cylinder shut off, and power is 140PS
The VW Polo BlueGT could be worth a look too, same engine
