My clutch pedal has been creaking and I’ve managed to get up behind to inspect and I am 99 percent sure the creaking is coming from this plastic part.
I’ve uploaded a photo of a pedal box and highlighted the plastic part I mean.

It starts to turn when the pedal is pushed down and as soon as this plastic part starts to move the creaking begins!

Am I correct in thinking this is a clutch pedal pivot?

Car is an insignia 2012.

Thank you.

Probably the same problem I had recently on my Saab, I managed to silence it by spraying some motorbike chain lube up there, wd40 etc is no good.
Seems to be a common issue.

On a plastic bush I personally would only use silicone spray as greases can react with some plastics.

I’ve since established that’s actually the pedal sensor and perhaps the creak is from a plastic pivot slightly higher up.

Yes, I’m going to use plastic wd40 stuff later on.
Really hope it sorts it. So annoying.

Massive well known issue on Insignia's
Go on the various Vauxhall Forums.
Grease, springs you name it. Dont work
Might stop it for a week then its back again.
Its a design fault.
Only cure is a complete new Pedal Box.
Dashboard out to fit.
Turn your Music up and live with it.

Hi, yes I saw this but my concern is that If another pedal box goes in then this will develop it as well.

I think it’s about 5-6 hours labour which is going to be £300 plus the used part (£40) and if the creak develops on the “new” pedal box then I’m going to feel hard done by.

So before I go through all that I wanted to at least try with some cheap lubricant. Even if I had to do it every month or so I wouldn’t be that bothered.

Thats what the Dealers fit when its on Warranty.
They try to fob you off for as long as possible, but if you insist, thats the fix.
Do a google.
As I said, its a massive problem.
Along with the Oil Pick Up 'O' Ring !

Problem is...my car is 2012 so surely no warranty would cover me now!?

Thats correct. They fob you off with cheap and quick fixes until the Warranty is gone.
I found Black Moly Grease worked for the longest, applied with a brush.
I put it on all moving parts that my foot would not manage to touch !
You'll ignore it after a while.
My car was a 12 plate Elite.
I was lucky my bottom end survived until I sold it.
Real shame for owners.
When Vauxhall were very aware of the problem!
Good luck with yours.

Hmm, I’ll try that today and see how it goes.

Sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesn’t do it.
I’m sure it’s warm weather related which puts me onto the plastic pivot. I just can’t see why metal on metal would creak. That’s more of a squeak sound.
If I really can’t stop it then I’ll have to think about a pedal box.

Definitely heat related. No noise when cold, heater warms up,everything expands then starts to click/squeak!
Moly not also lubricates, but has sound deafening qualities.
Used on Air Rifle Springs to stop 'Twanging' !

Right...update.

I’ve absolutely hammered it with silicone lubricant and there is no noise at all.

I am going to come back in 2 days and update again in case anyone else has this issue and can help them.

Fingers crossed.

Thanks for the info you gave.

If I have to reapply this stuff every month or so I’m not too bothered. Takes 5 mins to remove the cover and spray.

It wont last more than a day or two.
Read my post again, you have asked for help, then find some Thick, Black Molly grease.
And do what I've suggested.

Let me see how long this lasts as it’s much easier to spray up there as space is very limited.

If I use the grease you’re suggesting then I’d have to get my self a long thin brush which I’d have to wait for anyway due to corona virus.

Anyway, I’ll update in a few days and if you’re right I’ll give the grease a go once I’m able to buy a brush or order one.

Cheers

So far so good. The click is still there which I’m pretty certain no grease would solve as I believe it’s a worn plastic pivot pin. I’m really not bothered about that.

The creak has completely gone though so far.

Another update next week.

Creak has still gone. No sound at all.

Wd40 silicone spray on the plastic pinion.
Good luck guys.

Get in touch with Vauxhall they will send you a massive cheque.
You've fixed something none of the Vauxhall forum guys, garages, Dealers or indeed Vauxhall themselves could fix !
Give yourself a big pat on the back.
Then wait for the Creak and Click to return.
It will.

You said it would return in 1-2 days....it hasn’t.
The click hasn’t gone but that wasn’t what bothered us. The creak was the issue and it’s solved.

The click won’t go away as I’m pretty sure that’s a worn part.
The creak has gone so people can use this as advise.
