Radio 2 is in need of a mass over haul.
In your opinion, which as you've noticed that it gets very good listening figure, won't happen and why should it? Daz68 said:
I am amazed at the listening figures it still gets?
It seems that loads of you are listening to the wrong radio station, probably helping it to get very good figures. Stop listening!Daz68 said:

Sadly no DAB in my car and to be honest it's marginal at best where I live anyway so becomes frustrating really quickly. It's a shame though because I would probably just put on Absolute instead, I like listening to Frank Skinner on there at the weekend. Sunday, the local radio has Paddy on which I assume is country wide and I wish they would do something similar through the week as it's great.I plan to try streaming DAB over 3G from my phone to the car to see if that works because then I can have Moyles back in the morning!

All of those should probably be on R3 these days.
R2 tries to cater for too broad (and bland) an audience. People in their 70s probably mostly like different things to those in their late 30s.
6music should be more widely known about than it is, but many people don't seek these things out ad just stick with the rubbish that they know -Like Steve Wright's stale offerings...
That is very true. Trying to cater for a range of ages from 30 to 80 is probably too wide a target. I'm firmly in the 50 to 80 bracket now and there is less and less for me to listen to.R2 tries to cater for too broad (and bland) an audience. Keeping the same tired format will result in listener drop off, it's only a matter of when. Best treat the problem early. Starting with Steve Wright and that old guy on a Saturday morning before Norton.

That was the decision of the writers though. If it was up to the TV companies Fawlty Towers would have run until Basil and Sybil were as gaga as the Major and the old ladies.
Fair point, but whoever makes the decision the point is a decision is made, quickly and decisively.R2 feels like death by a thousand cuts.

It seems that loads of you are listening to the wrong radio station, probably helping it to get very good figures. Stop listening!when travelling in a car without DAB in the UK, there isn't much choice of non-cheesy-commercial or boring local BBC stations if you just want music and a bit of chat.

ecause the best time to make changes is when you are doing well. Liverpool FC in the 80s knew this, as did Sir Alex of Govan for example selling Beckham after winning the league.

Don't mind the old guy having a show but I wish they'd put it out some other time (I suspect it's recorded anyway, bit like SW's "Sunday" love songs). Saturday mornings are a bit prime time for this stuff. In TV popular sitcoms like Fawlty Towers and The Office were canned after a couple of series so as not to go stale.

We can't all like everything. As an enthusiast of show tunes, I purposefully tune into her show - not so much for her but the music.

R2 tries to cover a very broad church. Personally, I actually think it is far too "pop" these days - becoming a kind of "Radio 1/2". I really miss the fact that up until a few years ago it also included a lot of early 1950s pre rock and roll music and even music from the late 19th century and Edwardian eras. I like popular music from all time periods but I find that Radio 2 is now heavilly weighted in the post 1980s era.

But I like hearing a 40 year old song like Mr Blue Sky 27 times a week. Never gets boring In TV popular sitcoms like Fawlty Towers and The Office were canned after a couple of series so as not to go stale.

Nurse! Nurse! Why have you put my slippers in the fridge. Again?
Do you not think Eric, that there should be a rolling dateline for the playlist?
R2 is an eccentric assortment of shows that perhaps 20 years ago had an audience, but ought to be moved sideways to another channel after a number of years?
Wright was moved from R1 to R2, shame they cant move him elsewhere. At the height of his success it wasnt his personality or ability that made him popular, it was (at the time) the funny sketches that had people listen in. Someone needs to tell him to change the record.....
