OG BMW m2 road & track

Went to Donington last week, was a very grey & windy day with the odd showers.
Good day for making power, bad day for grip as had to explore the levels every time you went out.

Lap of the day posted above, not the fastest nor tidiest but a fan day none the less.
Tyres held out and wore better at 28psi front & 32psi rear. hot.. may even drop the front another 0.5 or 1psi.
Nothing else booked yet as ran out of front pads, don't fancy putting more decent pads in brakes I don't like so will stick the money towards some AP 5000R.

Being on the long limbed side seating position has always been a struggle

47mm steering spacer has enabled me to get my legs in a comfy position and still be able to reach the wheel with a good elbow bend.... only trouble is the further the wheel comes back the higher it gets.
Lowered the column on my E46 but doubt that's an option on this, will just have to get use to it being a bit higher than I would of liked.

Big upgrade!
Wanting to address the brakes for a while, the Malc AP racing 5000R kit with used BTCC discs and pads was the obvious option to keep future spending down.

When for anti rattle kits on the pads & discs to make road driving pleasant
368x36mm J-hook disc
ST45 pads
At Bedford-GT Monday so be nice to see what gain they'll make. Be the 5th day for the rear tyres so hope they've not done too many cycles.

Car is looking good
It sites really well in the last few pictures.
Are you still running your exhaust tips naked? The Oe dark finish tips are crap and don’t seem ti last that well.
Sounds like it’s been getting plenty of proper usage too.
That's right still no exhaust tips, wouldn't run it any other way now.

Again been a while since an update
Done a Bedford day back in October 21, brake upgrade made the world of difference, so-much-so managed to keep a tuned & mapped M2 comp very honest.... video below of 2 laps

Jumping to 2022 after a little break went on a buying and modifying spree
Apex ARC8 18" x 10 & 11"
265 & 295 Nangkang AR1
2016 Recaro SPA seat (so now I've a shape matching pair)
Gold wrapped the intake again using Funk Motorsport foil
Annual Engine and Diff oil service
Custom made a "GTS" style arm rest with genuine alcantara to match
Endless ME22 rear pads & removed backing plate to help with heat
68mm rear studs down from 75mm to save on grams as not running spaces on the rear
Lowered steering column 8mm

Also I'd wrecked the front from running them over pressured, turns out should be about 27/28psi hot
Interesting Sam... I had a lack of traction from mine when down that low, I go for around 35/36hot now and they seem to be in a nice window there. Have heard of plenty of people having bad luck with Cup2s though - got to treat them gently!

Its going to be different for all cars really. After taking the life out the centre of front tyres too many times I went back to the drawing board.Have heard of plenty of people having bad luck with Cup2s though - got to treat them gently!
Going to the factory tyre sizes and PSI recommendation I put them into a change of wheel size calculator
From 245/35/19 @35psi to 265/35/18 went down to 31psi
From 265/35/19 @35psi to 295/30/18 stayed around the same if anything 0.5 to 1psi more
I then took those numbers and dropped by another 3/3.5psi for track and wear is a lot more even.
Messed around with the Mumbury brake ducts, was never happy at how far away that sat from the OEM disc and the AP's are even further out.
Kit came with spacers only for the top fixing and bolted straight to the hub at the bottom and used button head bolts, got hold of some more alloy rod and some long counter sunk bolts to move things closer.
Ended up being around 24mm closer in the end
Untitled by M2 ClubSport, on Flickr
And chopped them back a little to let more heat excape

Still having a little trouble routing the 2" ducting to it, too many moving parts to get a clean route so it ends up chewing up the piping.
Gold in the bay again, going to get a charge pipe from Hack Engineering as apparently these are a weak spot... will be gold wrapping that too.

Lastly got hold of my dads roof bars off his F34 that were gathering dust in the shed

Part numbers didn't match between saloon and coupe models but thought would give them a go, turns out the front rails are a touch too wide... nothing a little drill and grinder won't fix.

Some overdue updates again
Snetterton 300 back in March, had kind of fell out of love with Snetterton for no piacular reason, didn't even do any sessions there in 2021 but this last day converted me, had a blast!
Managed a 2:08 which matches the best in my old M3 set on 245 BTCC slicks

Great to see you still progressing with this, I see you managed to drop the steering column slightly in the end - was this a bit involved or was it not too bad?
Was a bit tricky but I've done worse. Now steering columns don't have ignition barrels there's no sheer bolts, which makes things a lot easier.
M2 is hung off studs from the dash bar, at first I tried some 10mm spacers which actually dropped it too much and wasn't quiet enough thread to bolt up after, well there was but I wasn't happy with it. In the end used M8 flanged nuts (8mm thick) to wind onto the studs above the column and is then enough thread left to bolt up.
Hasn't effected steering angle sensor or anything.
Bedford GT a week after Snetterton, only signed on for the afternoon as knew lots of people on the day
