Sorry ment to say hope it did not go in to the engine can see it has had better days. any idea what has caused it to sheer off like that? Compressor Seized up?

My best guess is bearing failure.

Looks like that compressor wheel has shed a fair few chunks, I take it they didnt enter the engine eek
Just checked and no big pieces can get through the maf housing but
there was some metal "dust" in the intake. I will replace oil & filter asap.
phew! smile

You mean the missing 500hp - the car will only do weak 3000 rpm now
before it chokes

Oh dear! wonder what happened! Hope you get it sorted soon.

Never seen one of them superchargers before, didnt realise they look exactly like a turbocharger with the exhaust turbine replaced with a belt drive. smile

S62 - I'd guessed hehe

Rob - Rotrex Centrifugal SC. Nice increase in power with revs (ideal imo as the M5 is hardly lacking in off-idle grunt). More efficient than positive displacement as far as I'm aware. although I like the Whipple hehe

Was working on the car tonight and decided to clean the K&N filters.

Found alot of chunks of the impeller wheel on the inside of the air filter on the failed
SC side

Maybe the SC didn´t produce any boost near the end and the other one
was blowing air the wrong way through it?????

If the failed unit was low on boost, then yes, the pressure differential would force the air (and small parts) back down the pipe to the filter on the failed SC side.
Since the pressure before the SC failing was realtively equal, then the air would travel onto the intakes above the engine.
As soon as one side dropped off (aka failed) any air (and particals) would end up being forced back down the pipe to the filter as shown.

Very lucky then, and in some ways, better to run 2x rather than a single biggrin

I like the mechanical stuff (vroomtastic indeed), but the original wheels, headlights and bonnet looked much nicer.
I will second that. What the OP has done to the mechanical is very impressive but I felt myself shouting stop when all the external mods were made. Bog standard with 600bhp would have been awesome.

Started cleaning out the intake today:

A lot of oil and aluminium filings/bits came out of the bottom of the intercooler!

Decided to fast-forward the drying process:

Then it´s reassembling the front and install the new SC

Here is the result of crappy Icelandic roads frown

The "nut" or whatever it is called that the coil sits on was broken off mad

New & better ones have been machined and will be installed soon.

I was attending a BMW meet here in Iceland when this happened - was passing a camera
van when I hit a hole in the road. The video hopefully turns out nice,
only have seen a small preview you can see here:
http://turbocrew.is/videogallery/video7.php

Also - here are some pics from the meet (taken by two of the Icelandic BMW club members),
nice mix of cars (rather many E30's though.... ouich):

Yea, I don't think that modification at the front is anything to do with the air conditioning rofl
