I quite like it on the original plate.
I note the 'J' plate it has been on most recently, and wondered if what that is 'personalised to' is something that can be shared as in is it to do with the car itself in any way that I can't see? It just looks a little odd to me as it is the the format of low cost personal plate I have on my cars and bikes. Obviously please ignore this question if it is linked to something personal to family.
If it was F1 MSO or something like that then I get it, but equally from the tones of this thread over the years I would have thought that would be a little out of character and maybe seen as a bit too 'look at me'.
Plate had a personal meaning, although it wouldn't mean anything to anyone else and I thought that it was pretty anodyne - could almost have been a DVLA random number. This has to be the best shot of a non HD kit F1 that I can recall.
Muscular and tight, iron fist in a velvet glove. A car version of an ultimate gymnast. The wheels make it look like it was ready to leap into action like a leopard about to make a kill.
I guess being modular they were simply being altered as an when to find the perfect stance/width/size for the black ones.

Flemke - are there any colours that you think wouldn't work on an F1 (regardless of shade etc)?
Also - and aside from bicycles and (IIRC) furniture - what other genre of "thing" are you a fan of? Watches? Guitars? Teaspoons?
Colours... There are versions of every colour (apart from pink) that could work. The bigger issue is a metallic paint. As a rule, the more metallic a paint is, the worse it is on a sports car and certainly on an F1.Also - and aside from bicycles and (IIRC) furniture - what other genre of "thing" are you a fan of? Other 'things'? I have done a lot of art and design, so by now I have a collection of pencils and small W&N #7 sable brushes, but I don't collect things as such.

Exibit A, deepest, darkest metallic purple, colour matched to an aubergine would be my F1 colour choiceOther 'things'? I have done a lot of art and design, so by now I have a collection of pencils and small W&N #7 sable brushes, but I don't collect things as such.

Thanks for replying. A shame to hear it was better to look at than to drive but at least it makes me feel I got to enjoy the 'best bit'! I have yet to visit the 'Ring, but am planning to take my Alpina B5, but more to 'tick a mental box' than to explore any limits as for me it's too valuable to risk binning it. Kudos for giving a 959 (and other cars no doubt) 'the beans' there, but then your experience and skill level with rapid cars at least make it more likely to not result in any bent metal.
Before you go to the circuit, spend time watching onboard laps. They can be a lot of help in learning whether, after that blind crest straight ahead, the road goes left or right.
)What's your fastest race/qualifying lap?
Guessing a Manthey 911 of some description. And was it fun? Or did you hate it cause you were on the edge?
And a hypothetical, do you think the CGT would have been faster? Or was it more to do something different?

I'm not a fan of purple cars, but GH's old one is very cool. Just needs bigger wheels.Erik/Peloton said elsewhere it is the highest priced F1 ever transacted. By a margin if the rumours are true! The rare F1 where the owner was the most important factor in the sale, not the car itself!

That looks so good.... Taken from a similar angle, on the stock rims it just doesn't come close...aesthetically you nailed it.
Hell, I don't even particularly like red on Ferraris, let alone other cars, but this looks spectacular with the wheel change...the dark wheels just suit the shape of the F1.

Yes, the CGT - properly fettled - would have been faster. My original idea was to run it as stock as possible (apart from slicks and the necessary set-up to work with slicks), even keep the number plate on, in the 24 Hours. We reckoned that it would contend for the outright win.

Were there any concerns regarding the CGT's spikey handling reputation? Or is this just based on set up, the tyres and driver ability? New tyres seem to calm it down so with a race setup, slicks and skilled drivers I can imagine it wouldnt be an issue.
No. The original idea was to run it nearly as stock as possible and it would do whatever it would do in the hands of my teammates and myself. I never found the car all that edgy, although that might have been more personal driving style than competence. The second stage idea, which was Olaf's, was that to the extent possible we would turn it into a proper racing car. In the process of doing that he would have sorted out the handling at a higher level than what I was capable of and we would have had factory drivers behind the wheel.
Why didn't that plan come to fruition?
I remember seeing this one, and it says in the description that Porsche refused to let it race.

Struggling to understand why you'd need Porsche's permission? I remember seeing this one, and it says in the description that Porsche refused to let it race.
