Films I watched this week (Vol 2)

I think that’s a pretty harsh assessment, particularly the comparison to the Transformers films. By any metric you care to look at (critical and audience) the vast majority of the MCU films are held in much, much higher esteem than Mr Bay’s efforts. Aside from being big budget CGI filled movies they aren’t even vaguely comparable.
More inaccurate that harsh. I think Bay would like to stick some life lessons in his, but he just can't get away from going nuts on thumps and shaky cams. Shame as Prime is a great somatype for that sort of stuff.RemyMartin81D said:

Kajaki: The True Story
On tonight on BBC 2. Absolutely brilliant film, although hard to watch at times...
Is this the 'minefield' one. If so, seriously tense. Reminded me of certain scenes (although completely different scenarios) in the hurt locker. Very tense. If imagine like real war lol.On tonight on BBC 2. Absolutely brilliant film, although hard to watch at times...

They are almost without plot, their moral lesson bankrupt, their characters about deep as a puddle - like the Transformers films, when the only thing you're selling it outlandish CGI violence, you have to continually up the bar to keep the audience happy so I'm not surprised someone dropped a skyscraper on someone else or whatever.
So, I don't get drawn into the hype, and I avoid them. Sometimes it feels like going to the cinema is a bit like going to TK Max (for the hardcore PHers you'll have to ask your staff what that means) but instead of a million XS and XXL shirts in neon green to wade through to find that one wearable bargain it's Steel Man 7 or Radio Active Boy 4 or whatever.

I think precisely because they have stretched their legs a bit and really delved into the characters they if anything are generally improving as movies (critical response seems to reflect that too). Homecoming was arguably the best teen high school movie we’ve seen for many years, it just happened to have a superhero by the end of it, Winter Soldier was essentially an espionage thriller. Ragnarok was handed over to a highly regarded indie-film maker (with a very unique sense of humour), and he was able to run with his ideas and sensibility beyond anything anyone would have expected.
Unlike say, the latest blumhouse release (and I appreciate I’m generalising massively here), the MCU audiences are about as diverse and as clued up as they come (I go to the cinema A LOT, twice per week on average), particularly early on in their theatrical run. On opening night for Infinity War I was sat next to a typical PH director type who had come straight from the office on one side and a 6 year old dressed as Spiderman on the other.
Films that are as devoid of all that stuff you’ve mentioned do get found out, case in point the latest Transformers movie, which made less than A Quiet Place in the US.
Anyway, the new Avengers Film is possibly the most hyped film in decades, more than even the new Star Wars films, if like me you don't actually like Superhero films, do go to see it expecting to like it because a $250m marketing budget tells you, you should.

Dull, dull, dull
I watched both this week and thought they were fantastic, so could either (or both) of you recommend me my next film please, seeing as your bar is clearly set very high Dull, dull, dull

Give Three Billboards a go if you haven't seen it already.
My movie viewing is quite selective, I rarely get 2 hours to myself, not like the old days when I used to work in Blockbuster video! So it will either be a film suitable for the family, or something for just me and the missus.A Quiet Place is a possibility, but she hasn't shown any interest in 3 billboards, said it looks boring, I suppose that makes her a prole to some on here

I am, by no means, a die-hard film fan. I hated La-La Land and Moonlight. I didn't really fancy 3 Billboards either but it was easily the best and most engrossing film I saw recently.A Quiet Place is a possibility, but she hasn't shown any interest in 3 billboards, said it looks boring, I suppose that makes her a prole to some on here
