A couple of gems on Talking Pictures TV.

Space Patrol. A sixty-two year old sci-fi puppet show.

Who Do You Do? Some of the impressionists you might recognize, such as Freddie Starr and Little and Large.
I didn’t know Space Patrol existed until I stumbled across it on Talking Pictures TV.
It’s not in the same level as Thunderbirds when it comes to dramatic excitement and tension.

That’s in much the same comparison ballpark as saying that Rachel Reeves simply can’t match Starmer’s oratorical style.

I've just finished watching the very first episode which is 1 of a 2 parter. It stands up well I think. This one has Lindsay Wagner (who went on to be The 6 Million Dollar Woman) and William Smith who went on to become a notable TV baddy as Falconetti in Rich Man, Poor Man.
For all these decades I've thought that character was 'Falcon Eddy' as I'd only seen it first time round (back in the 1970's?).

Every day is a school day.

Nick Nolte did OK from that exposure, too.

I've just bought a Rockford Files box set.
For some reason it's not available to stream anywhere I could find.
You the man !

At the time Rockford was my dads tipple, but I loved to watch it with him when allowed. Mine were Starsky & Hutch, Magnum, The Fall Guy, A Team, Dukes Of Hazard and Simon & Simon
Love The Rockford Files. He scored some hot women too.

It's a shame The Rockford Files is not readily available - I'd love to watch it again. I think I mentioned earlier that I've watched The Streets of San Francisco again recently - that was pretty good too.

Star Maidens on Rewind TV. An Anglo German collaboration iirc. So bad it's almost good.
They're currently doing a car chase in the woods, on dirt, and the tyres are screeching round corners!

It was definitely 'hammy'.

(Good good product placement).

Secret Army.

BBC1 '77-'79

3 series, 43 episodes

WW2 drama, set in Belgium about the resistance trying to send Allied airman "down the line" and the Germans trying to stop them.
It's the show that 'Allo, 'Allo parody's.

Starring Bernard Hepton, Michael Culver, Angela Richards, Clifford Rose and the delectable Jan Francis.

Sets are a bit wooden but it's all good, gripping stuff. I like how they are totally ruthless and pretty much murder someone every episode, who may give them away to the Germans - mostly Belgium civilians!

Just started watching series 2. Yvette has been killed (boo) and they've decided to put over-dramatic music in every scene now, which is quite jarring. Richard Marner has just made an appearance, who later goes on to play the Colonel in 'Allo 'Allo....

The final episode was never broadcast, as apparently it was rather anti-communist in tone and we mustn't be nasty to the Russians....it's on my stream though. There is a subsequent spin-off series (6 episodes from '81) called "Kessler" about the eponymous Gestapo officer post-war.

Not that old compared to some mentioned, but 23 years is still fairly old in my book. After seeing a few clips pop up on social media for some reason I started rewatching Firefly. Still looks great and and has aged well. Definitely one of my favourite sci-fi series, and having watched things like The Rookie, Deadpool, and Resident Alien, they all look so young!

On Prime; it's very T.J. Hooker meets Dirty Harry and surprisingly progressive which isn't something I noticed when I was a kid.
Lots of car chases, Dee Dee had a Dodge Daytona Turbo Z, often sideways and occasionally airborne.

Standard cop stuff, lots of shooting, punch-ups and disobeying orders but getting the job done etc.

Even has a catchphrase of "Works for me"

On episode 4 and not too bored of it yet; for reference, The Fall Guy lasted three episodes before it was binned off and I used to love that.

I watched that last year having never seen it before. Series is great but the film is terrible.

It's actually got some meat to it's bones I feel. More than the usual generic stuff of the time...

I'm sporadically watching The Royle Family having been just too young when it aired in the late 90s. Watched the Queen of Sheba episode last night with the Mrs and it had me on bits and really summed up the meaning of family for me, especially at this time of year.

By all accounts the latter specials weren't that great so I think I'll leave it at that and not let them dilute the quiet brilliance of the original run + QoS

I'm just watching an early Z cars (Mk 2 Zephyrs/Zodiacs) and it's pretty dated (they actually turn up to burglaries). Greatest theme tune of all time IMO. Also, Stratford Johns bears a great similarity to my departed Dad.

A couple of PH friendly series I've recently found on YouTube:

The Power and the Glory - a very well narrated series from the early 90s that charts the history of motor racing, from the pioneers via the gentleman amateurs to the then-current F1 champions and and Land Speed Record holders

Slightly more recently produced, the various Fred Dibnah's Age of..... series have been getting a thorough re-watch as I don't think I've properly seen them since they were originally broadcast
