Also, why did Edward Ryder from the book become Edward Temple in the film while most of the other names stayed the same?
The book was almost completely different to the film.
Layer Cake is one of my favourite films, so was really looking forward to reading the book but gave up 3/4 of the way through.

Could eventually be a film with two future James Bonds in it!
If you mean Tom Hardy, not a chance!
Although there is a Bond link.

Young Sidney grew up to be Q.

Bloody hell - watched both films many times and never spotted this! (very different characters - mark of a good actor I suppose)

And while we're on interesting Layer Cake facts, apparently Dragan's real name is Dragan.

Disagree with you there, for a start most of the other names were the same.

Brilliant film, one to watch and enjoy every time. Have just ordered the book of Viva La Madness and see how that compares. (99p on eBay - so worst case it's cheap kindling for the fire).

Never seen Sexy Beast so going to give that a go!

like casino , goodfellows , the godfather etc, i never get bored of watching this movie . and the layer cake speech at the end made a big mark on me and is true . and every actor plays the part fantastically. was at a do a bit back and got talking to Burn Gorman about it and he said it was one of his fave jobs to have worked on. spoke to Jamie Foreman too and he was a fine chap and very amiable

Names maybe similar (I don't recall TBH), but the plot/story is vastly different.

One of the reviews for Sexy Beast describes Kingsley as the 'ultimate anti-Gandhi'

As mentioned recently in another thread the Stath was meant to be playing x (Daniel Craig's character) in a film of Viva la madness - not sure if it's going ahead, mention of that was iirc a year or two ago

To quote myself from that thread

Cant see Stath playing Craig's character - from the book I'd say he'd play Sonny; description from the book

"5' 10" bulked up from doing weights and 'roids."

I haven't read the book for a few years. But it IS the same story isn't it? Albeit shortened for film screenplay reasons.

Sexy Beast is a lot different to LC though.

Is Ian McShane ever NOT exuding menace these days? laugh

Because films are always faithful to source books?

I get what your saying - but having read the book Stath as Sonny is far better casting, than having him play Mr X, who doesn't really do violence, and having Stath in a film without violence is pointless!
