For me, these come to mind:

CRX:

GTO:

And of course, the drifters favourite - the AE86:

.. oh, and let's not forget the PH favourite:

How is a 1996 mx5 a retro 80`s car? Same goes for the GTO. I suppose half of your examples are correct.

Launched in '88, and the MX5 quoted above was launched in '89 and was a little tongue in cheek I feel... wink

131 Volumetrico Abarth. As a child, I used to drool over it.

or

Giulietta Turbodelta. Oh, sideways.

And finally,

A112 Abarth. only 70hp, but it weighed just 690kg.

I always knew that as the 131 Super Mirafiori. I used to love them too. My mates dad had one on a 'W' plate in '81 as a company car. I used to love the sound of the twin cam as he pulled away up the close.

The supermirafiori was the one below this.

Volumetrico means "supercharged".

Oh right! It just looks identical in my minds eye. You learn something new every day! I never knew they did a supercharged version. smile

My contribution to the thread.

Nissan Micra super turbo.
Another vote here for an ST - If they werent so hard to look after, hard to find, and expensive to buy, I'd have one in a second!

But the example posted is a 1996. Only 15 years old.

Was the coupe really launched in `88? or just the Audi 80? I have not looked but just know i have seen them on a 1993 plate.

I stand corrected on that one if it was really about pre 1990. It looks too rounded for a typical 80s design.

After a quick bit of research (PH classifieds wink), they were definitely about in '89 on F plates. I'm sure I've seen a few on 'E' plates though, could be wrong.

This was my bosses company car (not this exact one) when I started my first job after Poly, got to borrow it a lot, especially over weekends. Felt like a mini-Ferrari rocket ship and got plenty of attention at the time...

Would love one as good as the one in the picture...

Agreed. My first CX was a 2400 estate - a '79, I think. It could carry several huge slabs of grown oak crooks (for making new ribs for my boat...), or a very slightly disassembled Moto Guzzi 1000SP, or... you get the picture.

Then I had one of these:

A 1989 Cx 25 Gti Turbo 2. Definitely a lovely thing - not really obscure, but rare now, and a lot more obscure than a lot of the stuff mentioned on here. All good fun though...

One of these was my first present to me when I got my first job after Poly (bizarrely, working for Nissan UK)- not this actual car, mine was silver. Loved that car to bits. Was followed by an AE86....

I had a GSA and I am convinced that the brakes were actually an on/off valve.

I was told that the engine was two 2CV engines bolted together. That I doubt, BUT I knew you could start it using a starting handle!

Quick look at Wikipedia and I see they done a wankel version. Now that must be very rare.
