No offence meant to you, but I've noticed Mark Hamill and a few others involved with Star Wars saying similar things recently. (Odd as he didn't try to hide he hated the plot prior to filming).

It's seems like a new phenomenon, it's almost like 'victim blaming' for films - a punter or a critic doesn't like a film, that's not the films fault, no they should like it because the film makers say they should like it, and if you don't it's your fault. If you didn't like Ghost Busters it was because you were a sexist pig, if you didn't like Bay Watch it's because you weren't one and if you didn't like The Last Jedi it's because, well - it's because they may the film THEY wanted to make - it's just a shame they're in the business of making money really, it would have been so much better if they could have spend $300m or whatever it cost, and then just show it to the cast and crew.

Personally I think they knew they made a bad film, it's not just a bad film because he not only doesn't respect the legacy of one of, if not the biggest franchises in the Film World, but because it's just a weak story, rather than try to use characters from the previous, easier to kill them off, rather than accept that one of the core cast sadly passed away, create a horrible plot point how she survives one of the few truly interesting twists, Skywalkers 'Bobby Ewing moment' and the just terrible, terrible I mean really bad way they tried so much to make it a comedy.

No, they've managed to pull of a massive scam really, I don't know how, but they managed to flood rotten tomatoes and IMDB with lots of really gushing reviews pre-release, ran a very successful campaign to stop punters giving away 'spoilers' punters went miles out of their way to avoid them (really, what plot twists were actually good?) so most people went in completely blind - and it took more than a Trillion Dollars at the box office - punter reviews have been 'mixed' and the home release has been surprisingly low-key.

I wouldn't fancy being in the shoes of whoever has to pick up the story for the next one and supposedly tie up the saga - although, I've read they're going to make more than 9 core films now - so perhaps there's room for another two and a half hour boring chase across a galaxy not so far away.

Next one has Abrams’ directing again so at least he may try and tie it back into TFA again somehow? However then TLJ will have been a total odd one out! Disaster trilogy with no coming back now

It's been released on a number of torrent sites.
I suspect it's the least in demand torrent of any high budget, 'new' film.
I'm also concerned that a tome that's been 30 years in the making can't now be topped up because watching it makes me angry.

it was really, REALLY s-h-i-t.
I suspect your suspicians are really, really, er, suspect. Any of the torrent sites you'd care to name have it at the top of their downloaded / pirated film lists.
I really don't care if it's popular. Anything that requires you to watch the director's commentary or additional material to get a better opinion of it is trying to make up for poor original content.

I read lots of articles about what 'Rian Johnson' was trying to do. I get his idea.

Even if it wasn't a part of a long story of establish rules, norms and characters which many people know and have a feel for, it would be st. It would not have made any money because it wasn't good enough to have the sizeable marketing machine behind it in the first place. The marketing capital that's now been burned in the eyes of probably 60% of viewers (people under 20 years old are excused, I don't expect them to know any better).

It's still st.

I still have faith. ROTJ isn’t perfect and the way ending doesn’t really tie into TFA very well, but both are good.

You said it wasn't in demand. The amount of people seeding and leeching prove otherwise.

I didn't say you had to watch anything else to enjoy the film. I said I did, nothing more.

You think it's st. I don't. That's fine.

I'm not trying to persuade you otherwise.

I said I suspected it wasn't in demand. I wasn't stating it as fact.

The thing about the downloads though, there are other reasons for something to be 'popular' in downloads, like The Room. A lot I know wanna see if it's as bad as people say. biggrin
I watched ghostbusters remake on the pc, to see if it was as bad as they said...it was. biggrin

Considering Johnson has contradicted himself and backtracked over his 'choices' for the film and now Disney are employing other writers to retrospectively plug the plot holes (but creating new ones in the process) I think you have to ignore any additional material and take it at face value, in which case I agree with the consensus that it was st.

I don't see why they can't just drop it. Just say sorry, we f**ked up, lets do it again properly. Then I'd go and see the next one. As it stands I'm not going to see the next films in a franchise I have always spent good money on.
The Han Solo film is of no interest either, the main actor is totally wrong. Anthony Ingruber was the quite obvious, in your face, not even a question choice for that part.
The whole thing really did end with TFA and Rogue One for me which is sad because that universe is just full of great stories to tell.

I watched it again yesterday. Not a perfect film but I don't see why people hate it quite as much as they do.

IMO the film is supposed to be about failure, and learning from it. No one seemed to get anywhere and I guess that's why it feels like a huge waste of time, but that's kind of the point.

I assume in the next film everyone will get their act together and save the day.

If they had taken the obvious path with it, I think there would have been too many similarities with previous films. That was what I didn't like about TFA - I felt like I was watching a modern version of Episode IV.

Everyone fails in Empire too so it's actually not that original. In fact if TFA is a modern remake of Episode IV, this is without a doubt supposed to be Episode 5, except it's nowhere near as good.
