The Long steps -- apart from the garages, it's not changed much
Cool set of photos - when did you take those? The Long steps -- apart from the garages, it's not changed much
Last time I was in Newcastle the Trinity Square car park was still standing, I've got a photo (film) somewhere that I took from an open-top bus tour.

Forgot this in my previous post. The week before Christmas I had a works meeting in Krakow. "Sadly"
I couldn't get flights that didn't mean I had to arrive a day earlier and I simply booked the last flight home on Saturday. Despite being told it would be -20 it was literally +20 on the Saturday.
So I visited all the stuff from Schindler's List - (about 5 minutes from the office) DEF - Oskar Schinder's factory, a lunch break walk along the Vistula and across to the old Jewish ghetto area - there are still a couple of sections of the old wall they were made to build still there.
Schindler also had an apartment in the city itself, over looked by the castle.
On the Saturday I walked from my hotel on the main square all the way down, throught the ghetto, to the actual real site of the Plaszow Labour camp. It's not a massive attraction, like Auschwitz for example, there's very little left, save the Grey House, a blown up synagogue, Amon Goeth's "villa" - a lovely house with an old couple in it who were putting up their Christmas lights, there are the old roads within, the main "appelplatz" is clear to see, plus terracing and other things. It's actually really, really thought provoking - and without wanting to start a political decision, the sort of bellends who equate Tories with Nazis really need a smack round the head.
The promised freezing cold and snow hadn't happened and I was doing all this in a T shirt and jeans, having to carry a hoofing great North Face coat.
The best thing though was accidentally finding the film set for the actual film itself, it's in the bottom of a quarry and I spotted what looked like electric fence posts, which got me on my phone to look at google. Bit of a hairy climb down and unbelievbly it was all there - the lime kilns, the roadway paved with (fake) Jewish gravestones, the foundations of Goethes (reproduction) villa, Clear as a bell. when watched it is very obvious that the film is done in a quarry. I'm surprised they never cleared up after themselves. After that bit of a hike up a big hill for a panoramic view and back into town via a few bars and sore feet.
A few pics of the actual film set...

These are outstanding. I was in Krakow a couple years ago and didn't even think to see if the movie was shot there. Beautiful place.

Our Airbnb in Brooklyn New York last summer was a short walk from the Elevated Subway, under which Popeye Doyle chased the train in French Connection

Whilst stumbling around Hong Kong extremely drunk last year, I came across Pottinger Street where Cato chased after Clouseau in Revenge of the Pink Panther, on an Ice Cream Scooter

I've also got a picture somewhere of the cafe where Carter goes to pay off his niece/daughter -- it's the back end of a nightclub but still recognisable

I finally got a chance to go and see Emu Creek Bridge yesterday, which is where the final scene in Mad Max was filmed.

The still is taken slightly further down the hill.
Loving all the Mad Max shots - I recognise every single one. I am sad enough to also have visited them on Street Map - great resource for film location buffs.

There are some interesting YouTube videos on the Mad Max 2 compound location.

Lots of sci-fi stuff filmed around the deserts of Australia since it looks so much like another planet, but also Mad Max

That film is an abomination.
We shall never speak of it again.

It's probably 30 years since I saw it so I can't comment. That drive was awesome though!

Timberline Lodge in Oregon - used for the outside shots of the hotel in ‘The Shining’
Yeah, was meant to see that in early July too.
The Timberline lodge is great, the exterior is so-so, but the interior is beautiful. I don't ski/snowboard, but almost inclined to spend a week there just to hang out in the bar and lounge Yeah, was meant to see that in early July too.

Wells sees quite a few Hot Fuzz tourists, you can tick off the vast majority of the film in a 20 minute walk.
All those dark alleyways in New York City set movies? If they are actually shooting in NYC it was more than likely shot here, mainly because there aren't actually many alleyways, despite what the movies would have you believe...

View from our room on our honeymoon, handily has a little film museum full of posters and photos from the many, many films shot here...

Handily they'll even set this shot up for you...

Honeymoon - Monument Valley by Chris Harrison, on FlickrI’ve been to the pizza place from the original Spider-Man film (not the original original one, the one from the early 2000s), Grand Central Station and one of the bars from The Sopranos, all in New York, of course.
I’ve ridden my motorbike to, and over (both directions) the Øresund Bridge (from Bron/Broen) and I’ve actually met both Sofia Helin (Saga Noren) and Sofie Gråbøl (Sarah Lund, The Killing). I’ve also visited most of the locations in Ystad from the Krister Henriksson versions of the Kurt Wallander TV series, as well as a fe of the sites from Borden and the Killing in Copenhagen.
The Bridge

Vila Frida and Ystad railway station, exteriors both used for the Police station (the real one is a much less attractive low level 1970s concrete and glass thing).

Mariagatan, where Wallander lives.

Fridolf’s, where Wallander gets coffee.

As a small child, I visited Eilean Donna castle, which was in Highlander and I suspect a few other things as well.
