Forever my most favourite car ever - your thread just makes it even better.

Thanks for documenting and if there’s a way of making them ulez complaint, I’ll have one!
Sadly, its only the pre facelift E349 M5's that have a NOx reading that makes them ULEZ compliant but at least some of them can be!

I can do DIY stuff at home but I'm no builder, i'm letting professionals take care of what is essentially a complete rebuild, total gut out etc. It already had a fair size tandem garage but it growing a meter wider and meter longer when it is joined to the house as part of the works.
Garage getting bigger too, the emporer approves smile

The photo above was a shot taken not long after I bought the M5 which as you can see the engine bay had quite an aged look about it.

That wouldn't do so some tidying up was required. The paint on the plenum cover was past its best so that was removed and painted, the plastic scuttle panels and wiper arms replaced with new items, the coolant expansion tank replaced with a new one, various corroded fixings replaced with new, some tidying up of the wiring a a bit of cleaning helped to improve things without going to the extent of a full strip down.

And that about wraps it up in my tenure as on Christmas eve, the new owner collected the M5. He doesn't really do forums but as I will continue to look after the car for him, he has given permission to update this thread with any future progress on the car.

Going back to the Glacier green M5 I sold to a mate, he ended up listing it on Collecting Cars auction as despite loving the car, he ended up buying an 80's V8 Volante and decided to have an RS williams 7.0 engine build done so the M5 had to go to fund it.

I followed the auction with interest and took a call from someone who was interested in bidding on the car to ask some questions about its condition and fast forward a few a week or so later, they won the auction and had collected the car so decided to swing by to say hello in person.

What he hadn't told me at the time was that they were in actual fact the original owner of the car from new! Yes this chap ordered the glacier green car, specified the paint and English green complete leather interior when he ordered the car from Park Lane BMW in 1998 when the E39 M5 was announced and took delivery in summer of 1999!

It was fantastic to hear the story of when and why he ordered the M5 new and I was delighted that it was reunited with it original owner nearly 25 years later!

That’s brilliant.

Shame you had to sell.

Love what you are doing with these, it’s probably fair to say you are the UK’s expert on the E39 M5.

Fabulous all round, a pleasure to read.

Fab it's with its original owner again, I love hearing about things like this. Cars are definitely more than just objects.

Good work and best wishes for 2024, the B10 and the enlarged garage.

Nice! Mine is also Oxford green with green heritage leather. Early 1999 car so also one of the first?

Slight update… haven’t used this really since I bought it. Sills need doing which I’ll get done next week, then it needs to go to fund a bigger project car coming frown
If anyone would be interested do let me know, but I won’t be giving it away. Especially with it being green on green
