Well in that case, I offer my apologies.

If your getting a 6 pot E30 don't go for a 320i, just get a 325i as the consumption is about the same but performance is much better.

Got to say, while I agree with the character etc of older cars they're also a pain! My E28 is now 24 years old and today the heater blower decided to pack up. 'That could happen to any car', I hear you cry, but it's a right pain in the bum trying to get hold of one and without it the car is rendered almost un-drivable in this weather.
Cars go wrong, all of them, all the time. It happens.

A brand new car will get it fixed under warranty, a slightly older car will get it fixed at £100 an hour at your local dealer, an old car can be fixed by parts from ebay and a helpful specialist, or even yourself.

When you need to replace the tyres on your motah (because they wear out too), compare the price of 4 to that of a brand new equivalent BMW, then smile wink
This is part of the older cars appeal.. I couldve had a newer Corvette, but I wanted one I could tinker with and modify a little, so i got my '87. It can be inconvenient when things (rarely) go wrong, but its so much fun fixing them too!

Ever watched 'Wheeler Dealers'? Edd China's enthusiasm for sorting out modern classics really sums it up for me...

I park up every morning alongside the cream of eurocars, but its my old vette that always gets the compliments. These cars are only bought because the owners can afford them and to change them every couple of years. Thing is though, nice as they are, they are just dead, soulless devices. When you run and live daily with an older car, its takes on its own personna, like it becomes an entity, a living, breathing thing. It becomes a part of you, it talks to you and you understand it. Thats the difference....

My vette means so much to me that to consider selling it would constitute an act of betrayal after all the pleasure it has bestowed upon me. It gets to stay!!

It entertains me, it comforts me, it keeps me and my beloved Michelle safe, it takes me safely on holidays, ..but most of all it reminds me that my life is not without success!!
This sums what I think perfectly.

Certain people (who claim to be car enthusiasts) laugh at me for driving a car that is older than I am. "It's old" They complain, Comment that it is "unsafe" due to the lack of Power Steering, ABS, Airbags, crumple zones, Anti Skid Control or any other unnecessary nonsense. They snigger every time I walk into work 30 minutes late because my car refused to start. They moan that the suspension is too hard, the exhaust is too loud and that it is too cold (No heater!). But I forgive them. For they simply don't what it is like to own a proper car. For them, a car is transport. A tool to get them from A to B. To me, my car is a companion. I look after her by fuelling, washing and fixing her, and she looks after me everytime I prod the throttle on an Empty B-Road smile.

Oh, I don't blame the car, I think it's the 'period' Alarm/immobiliser. Sometimes the fuel pumps over runs it's time priming for whatever reason. As a result it seems like the immobiliser gets worried and cuts out the starter and the pump from firing (but still allows them to draw a current! The only way to 'reset' the system is to leave it for a bloody long time, or constantly have the key in the start position until the starter decides to work. Of course all this time the starter is draining a current (despite making no effort to turn!) and as a result, my battery goes flat before it fires up frown

It has only happened 3/4 times, but it is extremely annoying. I'm hoping that the new battery I've fitted will help. Fingers crossed smile.

The youngest car i've ever owned was 18 at the time and i don't see a nee to go any newer. I love the lack of driver aids and ridiculous quantities of heavy gadgets and safety, going super fast because some electronics 'help me' holds no appeal. At 20 most people find it strange that both my cars are a lot older than me (29 and 44) but i wouldn't change them for the world.

Oh and 6 cylinder E30s are overrated.
