Have just booked tickets, but fully expecting it to be pants, any improvement on that is a bonus smile

Its offered in 3D at my local cinema, would people suggest that's to avoid or to watch as I haven't seen anything in 3D at the cinema?

I wear glasses so would have to keep those on as well as wear the 3D specs.

Avoid 3D. It will mucky up the visuals and ruin the experience IMO. I only ever mess with 3D when the film has been specifically made with it in mind, which is quite a rarity.

It's not 3D anyway, none of them are. Stereoscopic vision.

End of pedantry.

How about IMAX? I've never been to one of those either.

Not sure what to think. It's my all time fave film and I have fears it will be terrible. Some stories are best left as a one off.
No need for the fears

Lots of reviews are now coming out and the feedback is mainly very positive. Even the slightly negative views say it's worth watching as it's beautifully shot.

Just don't look at the Empire review as they casually dropped some massive spoilers in. Including one in the opening paragraph that everyone else deliberately avoided.

Why is it that almost everyone manages to do a great job of reviewing the thing without giving too much away and some just dumps in a load of spoilers which added nothing to their review?

Hope they get banned from future press junkets.

I'm trying to avoid reading any reviews now until I've seen it on Thursday. The overall good vibes will have to keep me going until then smile

It's a funny old thing, film. The first was universally panned yet it's now a classic of the genre. Now we have 2049 which is getting piped off by all concerned. Will be interesting to see by things play out. smile

Was the original 'universally panned'? The premiere occurred a few weeks ago now, but I went to see it for two reasons: I'm a big fan of PK Dick and there were some intriguing reviews. Not as good as Star Wars seemed to be the worst if one ignored the dailies.

I loved and and I bought tickets to see it again the following week.

Some random review quotes.

"Like The Godfather Part II, it's a sequel to a very celebrated film which may actually be better than the original."

"It may seem premature to ascribe the word 'masterpiece' to a legacyquel of a heady sci-fi head-scratcher from the '80s, but its audacity and formal perfection - not to mention its thematic weight - leave no other alternative."

"It just has to be experienced on the biggest screen possible. Blade Runner 2049 is a narcotic spectacle of eerie and pitiless vastness, by turns satirical, tragic and romantic."

"Villeneuve's dazzling sequel is on its own march to screen legend. Gosling and Ford are double dynamite in a mesmerizing mindbender that asks new questions meant to tantalize, provoke and keep us up nights. Would you have it any other way?"

This is no longer just a hype-train gents, the hype-train has firmly de-railed and has morphed into a hype-flying-spacecraft with people inside doing the hype-train.

Much too young to remember Blade Runners original release but as far as I know it wasnt well received at all and was only when the Director's Cut version came out about a decade later that it began to gain traction and become the cult classic its views as today.

Ok universally panned is an exaggeration. Let's say it's reception was mixed at best though! It's certainly wasn't a box office success, although as it fell into cult status, home media formats breathed a fresh lease of life into it.

"Since its original release, the film has become a science fiction classic.[108] Roger Ebert praised the visuals of both the original and the Director's Cut versions and recommended it for that reason; however, he found the human story clichéd and a little thin.[41] He later added The Final Cut to his "Great Movies" list.[109]"

This sums it up for me. Critics by and large didn't have their fingers on the pulse of public and they've steadily come around in subsequent decades.

I saw Blade Runner on first release, and loved it. Didn't bother with reviews.
