I find fear of spiders very odd. A gerbil is more likely to do you harm, and a car even more likely.
I might regret asking, but what risk does a gerbil offer?

Do gerbils have a nasty bite, I don't know. Hunters, false widows etc are painful, like a wasp sting.

I think it the difference between a fear and a phobia. A phobia is an intense and irrational fear toward one or more things or situations.

I have fear or phobia of heights that I deem unsafe. I worked on the 18th floor of a building with floor to ceiling windows, no problem. But if I went to the 16th floor outside terrace and looked down it would make me feel very unsafe. I have been to the top of the Shard, Sky Garden and Horizon 22 with no issues, stick me outside at those hights and triggers something.

Exactly. I hate spiders but I don't think they are going to hurt me.

A mate of mine is very scared of heights. Unlike you, even if it's a safe situation he still hates it. Queuing for a high waterslide abroad once I remember him clinging onto the handrail and staring straight ahead even though it was entirely solid and safe.

My colleagues and I were invited to lunch at the Duck and Waffle. Its on the 40th floor of the Heron Tower, unfortunately one of my colleagues hates hights and perhaps didn't realise before hand that they have glass lifts to get to the restaurant - he came down in the internal service elevator, we thought he was going to hurl on the way up he looked so green. I was fine, I worked in Lloyds of London for a while and that has glass lifts.

I'd be happier outside with a railing to hang on to. It's floor to ceiling windows that give me the willies. What if they fall out...

Anyone who has to mention that they haven't watched Top Gear since Clarkson, Hammond and May left or variations of.
I watched a few episodes of TG with Evans, Joey from Friends etc and gave up - just painful to watch.

One thing that does annoy me is Hammond. His antics become boring after a while. That desert island show he did was marginally better than watching a pantomime. At least with panto you have expectations that it's st.
Totally with you on the TG episodes with Evans and Joey and that Harris bloke dreadful. As for Hammond I have been enjoying the series of his new business the Smallest Cog.

As long as they're zipped up then you should be fine.

The only positive of this whole story was that the spider surprisingly stayed on the sofa even after I jumped off, meaning I could contain and remove it. It was a really big brown one.
Never mind what you did in your pants, what was the spider like?
This line deserves more attention.

Regarding gerbils being dangerous - Who else remembers this story:

BT have annoyed me.
At the end of the month they are closing down BT Cloud where I have many gigs worth of files for which I now have to find another home. Bloody hassle, and they didn't send me any notification of it.

You've had at least two weeks' notice. wink
No, I have not. Did you not read what I said?
Yes. You said they're closing down the service at the end of the month. You know about it today, and today is two weeks from the end of the month.
I received an email about this on 15th July - Perhaps the OPs spam filter is over-effective.

... when they say "Can I get your email for the receipt?"

No, don't be stupid, I'm not going to dictate it in front of everyone in the queue.

Once in a similar situation I wrote it down, and they proceeded to say it out loud as they typed it in!!!!!!!
In all honesty I can't really see anyone being mildly interested never mind being arsed to write it down or trying to memorise it.

And if they did, then what? Sign you up to some dogging forum?

It's only an email address. smile

A gerbil can bite through your finger. I have first hand experience.

If you're paranoid enough to be concerned about someone overhearing your email address in Halfords, you probably don't have an email address anyway.

I don't want to look the spider up online, but it was very brown (rather than the traditional black ones you get). It had quite large fat body, maybe oval shaped, with distinctly brown legs.

I was really surprised it just sat there. Once I got the glass over it, it moved a bit, but when I slipped the paper under it moved much more.

We're in a more rural setting with lots of forests outside, including at the back of the house. So we've had frogs, a snake in the garden last year, a couple of those tiny mice you get in the weeds sometimes.

One time we even had a deer in the garden due to a missing fence panel.

Unrealistic time frames.

2 posts on our local FB group this morning.

Can anyone decorate a whole house for me this week?

Can anyone fit an alternator to my A6 today?

What planet do these people love on.

Nobody said it wasn't irrational.

It must be inbuilt in most of us from a time when a spider bite might have been dangerous to us.

I struggle with them whereas wasps don't bother me and the latter is much more likely to harm me.
