The gantry cameras at Heathrow are not active, but the HADECS cameras elsewhere are very active judging by the amount of S172 notes our rental fleet receives.
They were all gantry cameras, not sure if they are even there, there's just road markings on the road and a few signs, None of those ones on the side that you can easily see, like the average speed check ones.
You mean ones like this which are plainly highly visable at 100mph +

I think are also average speed cameras, and on the first day they caught hundreds.

Yet, you still get people braking at them and speeding up in-between. Not many now, admittedly.

Could he lose his license though? It's not like he was maxing out a v reg 323i with 150k miles on the clock with 4 different budget tyres with 2 months left on the MOT at 3 pm
Yes, you he could.
Yup, that would still get up to 130 mph.

Hahaha yes them ones, although I'm pretty familiar with that part of the m25 and have traveled through it a few times in slow traffic during the day and I've never seen them

Time for quick camera summary, as this keeps coming up:

Original HADECS cameras mounted on gantries over the motorway:

Current HADECS 3 cameras mounted on the side of gantries:

SPECS average speed cameras, primarily used to enforce temporary speed limits in roadworks, but more permanent installations these days:

For the M25 section referred to in this thread, the only cameras currently active are some (not all) of the HADECS 3 type.
They will usually get you if you are going around 100mph or over when there isn't a VSL showing.
If a VSL is showing, a good rule of thumb is to stay below the 10% + 2 number.

The HADECS 3 cameras don't do average speed calculations.
There are additional ANPR cameras around the M25 which look a bit like HADECS cameras but are not used for speed enforcement.

I haven't seen a mobile speed camera trap of any sort in use on the M25 for as long as I can remember.

Thankfully, it is still possible to 'press on' around the M25 as long as you drive sensibly, take notice of VSLs and HADECS3 camera locations and keep your eyes open for the unmarked cars.

Long may that remain so.

You're a legend, thank you very much, if somebody offered that information to me for 20 pounds, I would have paid it. I'm positive I didn't see any of the hadecs 3's so I'm clear, I'll be careful next time!

Thanks again

I wish I lived in Germany so I can really spread my wings and be free, there's a YouTube channel called AutoTopNL or something and these guys have daily uploads of all sorts of cars hitting 180 mph, mad how their government trusts motorists that much, I wonder how the statistics for road accidents/fatalities compare to britains.

At the moment there isn't anything stopping you living there is there?
In a couple of years it may by a little more difficult perhaps.
