I didn't mind the 60 Seconds remake - the chase scene in the original is incredible, but the rest of the film is virtually unwatchable. As for ones that shouldn't get remade:

Gremlins
Jaws
Zulu
Die Hard
Back to the Future
Top Gun
Commando

Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Chinatown
Goldfinger

Odd that all the movies that came to mind were 30+ years old...Not sure what that says about the state of today's movie business.

I don't think it says anything about today's movie business, other than, it hasn't yet been able to make films that have survived 30+ years in people's collective mind as being great films. In another 10 years, if we ask you this question, you might add some favourable movies from the 1990s. Maybe in 2048, people will say the same about "Avengers: Infinity War" but its too new for it to be said.

Effectively it was remade in Blues Brothers 2000 - same director, same cast (with one obvious exception), same story, yet far, far, far worse.

I'm inclined to agree. It's a great film which I don't think can be topped.

None of those would work, given a modern treatment.
