Yes I know that reference website, of course a black bezel insert will be an LN etc..but my point was around the actual official watch reference and addressed your initial post regarding "most importantly it's a coke model" I was just pointing out that there is no such thing as they can be any of the three, unlike today where you cannot swap out the ceramic inserts to make an LN GMT in to a BLNR GMT as they are referenced as such from the factory.
Do not pay more for a 16710 on the basis of the bezel colour as replacements are £55 from Rolex, good luck with the search.
Crystal clear, thanks. Like the idea of being able to change it, part of the appeal. Sounds like it is an "accepted" thing to do too if Rolex will do it for you. Nice one.Do not pay more for a 16710 on the basis of the bezel colour as replacements are £55 from Rolex, good luck with the search.
So...
Popped back to jewellers today as the guy that knew all about it was in.
Turns out it has just been serviced (22/07) and has a 2 year warranty. It definitely has the solid end links and has super luminova (if that is a good thing?). It has the swing tags and was originally an LN (bezel included). Only thing I couldn't confirm is what series it is but being a 2000 model I'm sure one of you guys will know?
Lastly I had a chat around the price (why not) and can get him down to 8k so £500 less. It is definitely adding up for me!

I didn’t know you could replace the bezel insert on the old ones. That seems like a great option for some variety? Is it easy to do yourself?
As an aside, did anyone see Brando’s gmt from ‘ Apocalypse Now’ without the bezel went up for auction recently?

The watch itself is extremely distinctive. In many ways, it's a classic matte dial ref. 1675 GMT-Master. But then things get a bit weird. On the set of Apocalypse Now, someone on the crew thought the watch looked too nice, so Brando popped the bezel off, leaving the watch in the state in which you see it here. Adding to the ruggedness is an "M. Brando" engraving on the caseback that Brando did himself with a simple engraving pen. It looks suitably rough and fits the watch nicely. The watch is fitted to a black strap, not an Oyster bracelet, that is not too dissimilar from the strap on which Brando wore the watch in the film (though it is not the original).

Crazy pricing. These were 3K 5 years ago.
The Rolex world has gone mad. My Kermit and birth year steel DJ were less than £5K combined....
I know this has been done to death but it feels like a bubble to me.
Tell me about it. Can't say I was looking 5 years ago but 2-3 years ago when I was they were a decent chunk less. I'd love a Kermit but think they have jumped even more from what I can see!The Rolex world has gone mad. My Kermit and birth year steel DJ were less than £5K combined....

Definitely discontinued. Glad I bought mine just before they were. Got a SS GMTII too a few months later just before they were discontinued as well. If it’s of interest; the value of the SS model is up by some 80% above its RRP according to Chrono24. The bimetal is hovering around it’s original RRP. Regardless, both are a joy to wear.

Given Phillip's dodgy Rolex history and the fact that this was recenty 'discovered', there'll be some serious questions as to provenance on this one!!As an aside, did anyone see Brando’s gmt from ‘ Apocalypse Now’ without the bezel went up for auction recently?

I don’t really know anything about it. Have they been up to naughtiness? https://www.hodinkee.com/articles/steve-mcqueen-ro...
