How times change - the Mustang was a new concept with a new name on its debut in 1964 , and it looked like nothing else.
Fast forward 50 odd years and the latest iteration is yet another attempt to plunder a past which most of its target market will only know about from stuff like this .(see also Bullitt , Ford GT , anything with Gulf livery ) .
It would have been insane for Fomoco in the 60s to recycle the names of past glories -imagine calling a new car the Model T in the Sixties . Why has the industry become so mired in a mythical version of the past, with so many sports cars being tribute acts to their younger selves ? Sure the Mustang looks nice enough, apart from the silly paint , , and I'm sure it goes like a rocket compared to its original version but put it near a 1970 302 and it'd look a bloated parody . As did the 302 in comparison to a GT350 from 1966 . ...

For a start the mustang has been in continuous production since 1965.
Without the questionable orange graphics this would still be a good looking machine but you would need to be a huge mustang fan to buy it over an s550. A brand new s550 with mag ride will be quicker round a track for the same money, and probably available at a discount or 0% these days. The cheapest used s550 with kw dampers and a custom tune would probably be quicker too with a considerable saving over this.
The only thing this has in its favour is it’s rarity as a collector item, in which case it probably has to stay unused in a collection.

Ditch the alloys and respray the spoiler and I think it looks pretty decent. I love the 2005 onwards redesign of the mustang, quite the looker compared to the fox body.
Whoever buys it most likely wont drive it and it will just sit gathering dust until its wheeled out and sold on again.

Sure its epic, but it looks like a V6 that a bloke who likes American Stuff has got his hands on and gone to town on with a can of red paint and lots of enthusiasm. Wheels remind me of my granddad mounting an old cartwheel on a plinth and diligently painting it in contrasting colors to match the house.
That arch gap, now it doesn't need to be dragging on the floor but that is more Ford Explorer than Ford Mustang.
50 grand gets you a lot of new Mustang, with similar power, the steering wheel on the correct side that doesn't look like a dogs dinner, which is a fate of so many Mustangs, a lot do seem to be bought by those who dont know the word subtle, they are generally distinctive enough for being a Mustang,
Each to their own, but I like mine pretty plain, maybe with some low key improvements, no louvres, stripes etc.

Sounds like they made a proper effort when making this car. Easy to dismiss the wheels and the paint job etc etc. I thought this was Pistonheads where what was underneath counted for far more ? I like it.
Almost like a Mustang version of the Rover 200 BRMPeople more worried re the paint and seats than the mechanicals and performance

Because nostalgia sells, that's why.If I transfer that allusion to films, I’ll ask why film makers keep remaking films yet inevitably they are inferior; Ghostbusters, The Wicker Man, The Italian Job, to name but a few?

Current Mustang 4784 x 2080
Current Mondeo 4871 x 2121
Why people mention that the Mustang is 'too big for British roads' is beyond me. Next time Enterprise drop me off a Mondeo I'd best ask for something smaller in case I can't fit down a B road
Glad someone else mentioned this. The Mustang is not a SMALL car, but neither is it some leviathan - as many on here seem to make out.Current Mondeo 4871 x 2121

Hideous thing, the name also. 'Laguna Seca' wtf is that all about.
The Mustang has been done to death, coming from a sleek looking original to a massive overweight blob of a car. Guy in the village near to me has one, not good to drive and really is too big (wide) for UK roads especially B or C roads.
I used to have one albeit a 2.3 turbo with carb circa 1981 model (HOC 8W) but that at least was very much smaller..

So hardly an overweight blob.
I'll give you it is slightly wide at 100mm wider then the M5 IIRC but far from bad to drive.

I love Mustangs but this looks a bit pony to my eyes. I do still fall for the Recaro seats and the 5 Litre V8 though.
This is actually a special Mustang with some major improvements that it handle more like a 3 series than the other models in the range (remove the graphics & add some on the roof/Spoiler etc) I'd be changing the wheels for some 20's anyway.
All the stuff most people don't like on this car are simple things that (a) gives you an opportunity to haggle (b) easily remedied.
