Does your employer arrange the college course? Do you get paid whilst at college (my understanding is that legally you have to, although I'm not 100%)? College is a place of work for an apprentice.

ETA: For clarity, I am making the point that there should be no benefit in kind.

Work have put me on a college course, which we get paid for by work. I don’t think there should be any benefit in kind. Especially on such a low wage of £4.15

Then you are at work and there is no reason that you would have to pay for the insurance and fuel compared to any other day when you're on site. Totally understand if you don't want to raise it again with the employer though.

You should also be on £8.72 not £4.15 if you've been in the apprenticeship a year aged 34. Again, understand if you don't want to raise it if you are due the raise after Christmas anyway.

The reward for getting through your apprenticeship would be steady work for the rest of your working life with good pay and easy low cost business if you want to start your own.
When I started with British Gas was on 23 pound a week this was 40 years ago but even living with parents struggle to run a motorbike or car.
Kids want it to easy these days we had to do the gardening and clean the toilets at our depot imagine getting a teanager to do that now.

Work have said that I need to hand the van back with not much of an explanation. Just had a text on Christmas Eve. So I’m on the hunt for a cheap car again. Trying to take all your tools on the train is a right pain.

as an apprentice?

I had a handbag sized box of basic tools for the first year or so, nobody was expected to have much more

Well our company expect you to have your own power tools, drill bits, hand tools and test equipment.

hope they're giving you what you need in terms of training cos it seems like they're certainly taking out of you what they want!

Well..... that’s another story. I’m looking to finish it, gain as much as I can then move on. Hopefully I get a wage rise in the new year.

Off-topic slightly but after a year of an apprenticeship, being 34 you should get national minimum wage, so £8.72 an hour. That should just about double your wage I think?

As an ex apprentice, stick at it, it's all worth it once you qualify.

All the best!
