100g goats cheese - £2
190g pesto - £2
6 tomatoes - £1
4 sub rolls - £1

That would make 4 of those sarnies with ingredients to spare.

What a rip
Make sure you add the other costs in:
Rent
Rates
Power/water etc
Staff

God forbid a business want to make a profit too.

You could break anything down like that, include a fraction of the costs and make it appear poor value.

But that's the thing, how can you say that when you're undervaluing the ingredients so much?

If I was spending a tenner on a sandwich I'd expect quality, so if I got served your 3 quid assembly job I'd ask for a refund laugh

Get used to it folks, food has been cheap in the UK for years. Rent, rates, energy bills, taxation, interest rates and thats before you consider some ingredient costs are double 2 years ago.

It's going to get worse, businesses have been shouldering the increases for months and most will not be able to afford to do so.

And, quite frankly £10 for a decent sandwich in London is not that suprising. and by the looks of it it's a pretty big roll (not a sandwich).

To be honest the thought of paying £10 for a bloody big freshly made sandwich like some of the ones in that article doesn't feel as outrageous as the £4.99 M&S pre-packed Prawn Sandwich does but that's just me.
Not just you, when this was mentioned on the radio this morning when I was out walking the dog I thought to myself, well Sainsbury's do a £5.00 Taste The Difference prawn sandwich, an extra £5.00 for a decent freshly made one doesn't sound too bad.

Seafood hut on the pier here does a freshly made prawn marie rose sandwich for four quid and it is packed full, closed for the season now though (my to my wife's chagrin as often grab her one when out for a stoat about the town)

How do we know the ingredients are quality though is just says goats cheese, tomato and pesto.
It could all be shop bought ingredients or from a supplier.

Maybe they need to give a bit of backstory on the goat and the quality life it's lived to provide the finest milk/cheese ever seen.
How the tomatoes are grade A quality which I've never tasted the likes of before and how the pesto was hand made from the finest ingredients at the crack of dawn each day to command such a price.
The chicken sandwich at the same price is probably better value.

I get the overhead arguments as well but it doesn't justify charging a tenner for a cheese and tomato sandwich.

This was posted on one of the tweets which I thought was quite funny

You can tell when you eat it. Especially with stuff like pesto, the difference between a shop bought jar and freshly made is night and day.

Like I say, if I paid a tenner for a sandwich and got almond pesto and tasteless supermarket tomatoes I’d be taking it back.

Just coming back to this, I'm actually down in London (Bank area) for work next week.

As it's my first time there, can anyone recommend a place to pick up lunch, maybe a sandwich place?
I might even try something with pesto biggrin

Nothing too extravagant though as my max expenses for lunch is £30.

My first time this year and I was a bit shocked at the prices. This wasn't helped by my Father "forgetting" his wallet, so I was buying everything twice laugh

These prices people are paying are madness...

£6 for this, bread baked fresh daily and the 3 chicken thighs fried off fresh while you wait. Probably be £20+ and half the size in London tbf... rofl

Whilst these articles are often London-centric as correctly noted, you don’t always have to get bummed senseless over bread related takeaway food in the capital.

A guilty pleasure of mine is Shawarma Bros. In a shed thingy under the filthy railway bridge outside Waterloo station. Absolutely delicious mixed kebab meats, sauces and salad stuffed into a wrap the size of a rolled up towel. The £7 size would be enough for two people at lunchtime, and the £9 ‘large’ version should only be tackled whilst either drunk or severely hungover…

Wonder what the score is with rent and rates for a place like that?

My local has just put their prices up. £2.80 for a cob with salad and £3 for pork pie. They are renowned for them and sell 1000’s a week and it’s certainly profitable for them.

Looks a bit bland and basic if you ask me.

At the other end of Cornhill from Bank is Garbanzos. I walked past it on Wendnesday and it looked good, there was also a queue out the door which is always a good sign.

If you want to play it safe there is a Sainsburys Metro just across the street from Garbanzos. Lots of ready made sandwiches, salads, wraps, scotch eggs, fruit etc

At that price, it looks fine, cheap 'n' cheerful, just needs some pickle.
