We have one of each,

Jag XJ RWD
TT black edition AWD
Fiesta ST FWD

My next daily will be AWD I expect, 2wd at this time of year if you have any power does mean it’s easy to spin the wheels if you are a bit ham fisted.

Great thread and hard to improve on the previous suggestions !

Fwd for me has to be the DC2 simply can’t better it so I have to chose Japanese but my goodness it’s hard to chose the 4wd choice ?!

Nissan GTR or Yaris GR or Impreza S202/203/204 etc or Sped C or Evo Rs 9 or GT impossible to decide they are all incredible to drive will have to go for a GTR due to its ability to be tuned so highly.

And RWD maybe not the right country to chose from for a spectacular RWD car so I’m going for an NSX type R never driven one so not sure if I’ve made a mistake but will give it a go rather than a GR86, supra TT manual or RX7 turbo special edition.

If I was to overlook the amazing DC2 it would end up being German so golf GTi club sport, 911 GT3 comfort and an Audi Quattro S2 or Sport mk1 rally car.

I think I'd stay German and have:

FWD.
I'd be happy with my MK7 GTI but a Clubsport S would be nice to try

RWD.
Has to be my dream car, 997.2 GT3 RS

AWD.
Gonna need somewhere to put the dogs. Cayenne Turbo GT should do it.

Even better; one brand.

I tried to think of a French option, some of the all-time great FWD hot hatches were French but RWD and AWD is trickier. I guess the Dacia Duster is kind of French? A110 is a good one, I have a lot of want for one (I would have one over a Porsche Cayman) and a critical (if not a commercial) success. I only read about that A390 last week and to be honest, I’m a little disappointed, it doesn’t really do anything for me. Likewise, the A290 reviews seem a bit lukewarm ie it’s not really any quicker than ICE alternatives and a bit heavy and not very playful. For me, the “vanilla” Renault 5 is more appealing, especially from a value perspective. Is that “bonkers” mid-engined electric Renault 5 RWD or AWD?

I think the A290 and A390 would be fine as runabout and family car if you've got an A110 for fun.

The Renault 5 Turbo 3E is RWD only.

You could have the Peugeot 9X8 as your AWD?
