How about the V8 from the E90 M3?
How about a W16 from a veyron? rolleyes
confused I thought my suggestion was reasonable...
Well, I'm sure that one day somebody will do it just for the sake of it.

There are many problems - the price of said engine, the availability, the fact that it won't even start without having stloads of different sensors fitted which are not to be found in an E30, the whole complexity of the build from electronic point of view.

What's the point when you can buy a whole E39 M5 for few grand and just swap the S62 having the same sound, same power for much less.
Or even LS1,2 or 3.
Someone has already dropped in the S85 V10 from the E60 M5 into an E30...

Wow! That looks amazing. A bit of a complex built though!

I said back in the 1 series M thread

"seeing fatty next to the pretty e30 I'm feeling nostalgic, I recall there is that guy remanufacturing Porsche 911's and another company Jag XJ & XJS's makes me wonder is there anyone doing the same trick with the e30?

I know a lot of projects exist with e30's with just about every BMW engine ever, but properly restored upgraded e30 with modern poke appeals to me, because it's better looking and better for b roads."

It would seem that Gamma motorsport would be a good place to start.

The first question would be weight and weight distribution in terms of V8 vs straight 6

Someone has suggested that a small block chevy will fit in the E30 engine bay. I have seen a Rover V8.

A 357 might be a badge could be interested in

cloud9 this thread.

Have seen various E30's with V8/10/12's with BMW engines and then with various LS engines. LS1 seems to be used quite a lot.

How on earth would a BMW V12 engine fit in an E30? Looking at the V10 build there wasn't much room. Do you have any pictures?

Twin turbo V12 putting out about 600bhp. From a shed to a super car in ten minutes and four seconds (shame the bloke can't drive it and just wastes tyres). LS1's are a popular conversion in the states but try finding one with a hetrosexual gear box. They're nearly all auto's. frown
Rover V8 if you're on a tight budget and don't mind people with beards wanting to talk to you in pub's.

reasonably successful E30 M3 look-a-like racer with a E39 M5 lump. The builders went to town with this one by grafting the front and rear suspension off the E39 into an E30 shell!!!

Amazing, but not to my taste, prefer the car to look 'normal' from the outside.

There was a E30 for sale not so long ago with a 280bhp 5.0 V12 from a 750, looked like a pretty full engine bay but shows it can be done. I however would prefur a smaller engine to aid handling, hence why I suggested the E90 M3 engine as it's lighter than the straight sixes it replaced.
