Why do they carry all that st around on their roof? Can't they afford a home with a garage (or at least a shed)? confused

Is it my imagination, or have all of those cars been built to a very strict specification?

Its like they've made a list of "should haves" and then picked five of their favourites to do to their car.

It's just part of the look. Much like bugs and buses having surfboards on the roof I guess. Anything german or from 'ze fatherland' is good to go up top.

I quite like some of the rat stuff and I can't deny I have thought about doing it to some of my motors (the MX5 was gonna get it)

Best execution I have seen. Won't be to everyones taste, but what is?
FFFIn awful is the answer, it is not a car that people with taste will like.

Ignore the expensive wheels and air ride and it is a chopped/ruined bmw shell. At one stage the car looked mint, now it looks like a mess and gets even more praise.

To me this is the perfect example of a car that so many people will say they love on forums but the guy could never sell that for a fraction of what a decent stock bmw would go for.

Of course people will love it on a Rat look forum - everyone on there likes the rat look.

I'm pretty sure they dont do it with a mind on what the re-sale would be either. Its a hobby to these people so I say leave them to it.
Yes i realise that people on the RAT LOOK forum will say they like the car.

A friend of mine had a VW Vento that was rat look, he managed to get it into a variety of car shows where plenty of people say they love it yet when he put it up for sale no one would touch it not even for £200 with T&T. That BWM is the same, lots of people say they love it but would anyone hand over their own hard earned for it - VERY doubtful hence why I really struggle with the forced rat look that people go for.

You have to admire the irony of justifying the alterations as being intended to make the car individual.

Everything else in that thread is just fanboyism. I don't understand where this thing of carrying junk on the roof came from, that's not Rat, it's just taking the piss!

It's part of the trend, I don't understand it personally, but apparently having loads of stuff you don't use on the roof is cool in this scene

You have to respect getting both Swampy and tree-hugging themes into a static object.

hehe

Clue is in the picture.

On a beetle, If you want to go away on ya travels and carry stuff it needs to go on the roof. Modern stuff would look stupid, so aged stuff is used to be in keeping with the way the car has aged. It then becomes a fashion statement at shows.

Quite simple really. smile

I hate the "Rat Look" and everything about it.
Ruining cars that otherwise could have gone to somebody who actually has decent taste and will look after them properly.

I'm curious about the person that thread was started by - he's called Ry, lives in the Midlands, and drives a Honda Type-R (although it's an Integra rather than a Civic, but he could just be pretending...)
