Around 1993 we had a Bentley Turbo R, Sherwood Green, black leather. H reg IIRC.

Went over Europe in it. Once, I dropped the keys in a harbour - in Spain. Someone fished them out with a magnet and RR UK had to talk my dad through disconnecting the alarm as the key fob didn't work.

I was NOT popular hehe

My dad had a white Astra GTE 16v when I was born which he owned from 1990 to 2000 (I was born 96) and my mam an M reg Punto. My mam drove a variety of Fiats (3 Bravos, 3 Puntos) up until 2009 when since she's had a Mini, a DS3 and now an A1 Sportback. When the 3 year lease is up next year on the A1 it'll be the same again or a Mini.

Since the GTE my dad had a few boring Vectras and an Astra, then more recently 4 SEATs, (1 Altea Sport, 1 Altea FR and 2 Leon FRs), an Audi A4 Technik, a BMW 320d M Sport and two Evoque's; first a white ED4 Pure Tech Coupe and now a SD4 Dynamic 5dr in Loire Blue. I have a feeling next year he will upgrade to an E-Pace.

The ones I remember,

MK1 cortina (used to tow a Fletcher speedboat)
Vauxhall cresta V6
Ford zodiac v6
Triumph 2.5 pi
Triumph stag (briefly)
Fiat mirafiori
Three Granada 3 litre ghias
Rover 827 vitesse 2.7
Nissan QX
Nissan primera sport which I took over when he stopped driving.

He once had a mates yellow Rolls Royce for a month. Now an Irishman in a roller in the late 70s was not a good combination. He was stopped by the police one day and for some reason they didn't accept his reason for having the car and he spent a night in a police cell while they verified his story. They thought he was some kind of high ranking member of the IRA!

You kids haven't lived.

The first car after WW11 was a 1926 Chev roadster.
Mechanical brakes meant you went down hill in second gear.

Next a 1930 Dodge 4.

Then a 1936 Dodge Sedan 6. That was the first one I drove legally.

First car that I remember was one of these (SInger Vougue)

For some reason I rember the reg plate YDB 815, no trace of that plate now, probably died with the car.

After that

Gear stick used to come out of the box quite regularly.

Then tragically

It developed a fault where the wheel used to rub and catch on the inner wheel arch, since repairing a Metro years later I now realise this was a worn radius arm.

Back on track.

Although after a couple of years the air filter caught fire and burned all the paint off the bonnet. He then proceeded to hand paint the bonnet with a tin of gold hammerite paint, looked lovely.

I ended up with the Granada when he retired when I was 18 and he dug his 1950s push bike out of the shed.

That used to happen on my old 1600e along with the hydraulic pipe for the clutch melting through on the exhaust manifold. Another time I had smoke coming out of the dash so went to turn it off only for the key to be red hot. It burned an imprint into my thumb and finger, a bit like that scene in raiders of the lost ark.

Mum had a s**t brown morris minor 1000 two door that had holes in the floor through which you could see the road.
Dad had a green volvo 144 saloon with black vinyl seats that stripped the skin from your legs when they had been exposed to microseconds of direct sunlight.
My grandpa had a dark blue triumph dolomite sprint. I distinctly remember the rather dodgy fake wood veneer on the dash. Didn't matter because it was pretty quick and sounded great.
