Microsoft do a trial for £1 for the first month - that's the best way to start.
It also lets you upgrade your current gold subscription for £1 - up to 36 months.

I bought three 12 month gold subscriptions for £120 from cdkeys, then upgraded the whole lot to ultimate for £1.

https://www.xbox.com/en-GB/live/gold/upgrade
That's what I did a while ago, and a superb deal. It was more replying to Welshbeef as he'll be a new Live user with no Gold to upgrade.

Can I do the xbox gold upgrade given I haven't had an xbox for years? Or should i take the £1 offer, is it easy to cancel after a month then use CDKeys?

Try refreshing the payment section (after you have entered payment it went through and showed the stage 2 or rather just number 2 and a blank section below where I expected to see cars extra security info. I was concerned about putting it in twice in case I was charged twice but as o order email I refreshed it did it again and it worked with order number coming through more or less instantly to my email.
Thanks, Been trying umpteen times , Their website has slowed to a crawl now. Will keep trying. You did well to get one ! thumbup

Mine's due today along with Valhalla. I'm thinking I will reinstall some of the Xbox One X stuff I have (Forza Horizon 4, Watchdogs Legion, COD, Minecraft etc) rather than do the network data transfer thing.. seems cleaner somehow. How about anyone else?

I've just checked and yes you can just pay for a normal Live Gold membership. Then you'd be able to upgrade to GamePass Ultimate using the details posted earlier.

Yes, its easy to cancel the subscription rebill from Xbox, its under the 'Subscriptions' area, but if you upgrade using a pre-paid card you won't get rebilled from MS.

  • edit* actually there's probably a cheaper way to do it...can anyone add anything? Maybe buy a long Gold subscription and then upgrade to Ultimate?
Anyway, to keep this more on topic, my console is currently sat in the local distribution centre, so should be out for delivery soon (I guess the delivery monkey is chucking them into the van as we speak) :laugh

Will you not lose your save data that way? I was thinking the same initially but thought NW transfer will be quicker

No, save data will be in the cloud with your GP account. Plus it will be MUCH slower downloading rather than transferring. Think how many other people will be downloading from MS servers today?!

From the MS page:
If you're signed up for the Xbox Live service, you can store your saved games in the cloud. Your data is stored on both your hard drive and in the cloud. Xbox Live keeps your important data in sync so you don't lose anything when you use a friend or family member's console, or even when you switch to a new console.

Nice one. Maybe that info should be a sticky?!

I've also just found this from MS - interesting:

https://www.xbox.com/en-GB/live/gold/upgrade

After you join Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you can continue to redeem Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass codes. These codes will automatically convert to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate based on the following conversion table. Conversion ratio subject to change.

(there's a table with the cost details - I didn't think that would work)

I got confirmation from Royal Mail that mine is due for delivery between 9am and 1pm today.

Just clicked into the link and it says that the package is on its way to my local delivery office, so that seems to indicate delivery today is unlikely.

Exactly the same for me too. I might try and see what I can get in terms of a gesture of goodwill from them given I ordered the thing within 2 minutes of their pre-orders for it going live.

Hello,

We're sorry about the delay in getting your order to you, but I'm pleased to tell you that we're preparing it for dispatch now.

Within the next business day you should receive an e-mail from us confirming that the following items have been dispatched:

"Xbox Series X"

This confirmation e-mail will include tracking information if it's available and a new estimated delivery date.

If the order won't arrive by the time you need it, you can cancel the order or an individual item from your order by visiting Your Account, and viewing the order details. As long as the item hasn't entered the dispatch process, you'll be able to cancel it.
We hope to see you again soon.

That’s rubbish frown At least if they had let you know in advance you might have bagged another.

Same here. My Ring video doorbells still haven’t turned up from Prime Day either.
