I think restomods are tricky - some make a lot of sense, but most of them involve too much emotion to be economically viable.

I was on the waitlist for a Singer for quite some time and finally got the phone call from Seamus...only to get cold feet when he told me what the estimated cost would be for the spec I wanted (especially if I factored in the inevitable divorce that would follow...).

Thankfully I hedged myself by putting my name down with Rick @ RetroWorks here in the UK . Having seen his work up close, the workmanship was impressive and, dare I say, comparable to the Singer. The latter excels at the most minute details which IMO takes a great to do a legendary car....albeit at a cost.

I am under no illusion that it will not be comparable to Singer nor will RetroWorks have the same brand/following and thus have an entirely difference secondary market value...but I don't really care. Its a car I plan on keeping for a long long time...

Happy to share my build if people care. Car should arrive end of March (I hope).
Yes please.

This could make a lot of sense. I’ve seen JAZ’s work many times and would suggest they are the leading outfit for early 911’s especially the 2.7
Dare say, to repeat this built today would cost a heap more.
Lovely looking thing

For a 2.7 copy to be worth anything like that it needs to be built on an early car and have a genuine 2.7 engine in it….this car is built on an ‘88 with a 3.2 engine. Think it’s £50k too expensive. I’d say the fact Sportwagen did the bodywork is a huge positive.

Agreed on Sportwagen ... I had a 924 Carrera GTS that had been repainted by them and they had done a lovely job on a complicated substrate.

As for this car, why wouldn't you buy a decent original 2.4S or push yourself to a '74/75 2.7 Carrera ?

Not a resto Mod as such but at a certain price interesting nonetheless.

That said there is virtually no history with the car and as stated in the advert it’s a non original engine.

Looks like it’s been partly restored but clearly there is still more to be done & one questions why the cracked bumpers were not attended to when the body was painted .

Can’t quite make my mind up with regards to what’s fair value given you’d want to get the car to a good standard.

This looks lovely. Not sure in condition but if it's any good it would make a great platform.
Lhd though which would be put me off.

If £50k for a LHD is now good value, explains why I had to pull the ad on my RHD within 24 hours of going up, due to response.

I'm now in 2 minds stick or twist....

Hmmm..not sure......the engine, interior and the whole underside of that car is great.

But that colour on a targa doesn’t work for me.

not really backdating (more upgrading) since its based on a 1972 car, but boy, it looks lovely from some angles, comes also with another set wheels, more Fuchs like I believe.

Just looked at the dealers website. 266 bhp....it's got way too much grip for that amount of power. I reckon it would be a pretty average drive. Also that cage is ridiculous in a road car....no road car needs a full cage and that bar across the bottom of the dash would cripple you !

All Singers are kind of special aren't they and that one seems more bolder and special than most. I figured I'd share as some may like to see it. Just 'cos it seems special does mean I like it. I think Jimmy Hendrix is special but I don't particularly like his music. I think you've come at the argument the wrong way - in summary you love the GT4RS, and whilst get that Porsche is all about evolution not revolution, I personally feel the GT4RS looks old hat even before it began - but you like and that I can wholly respect and understand. Don't get me wrong, I don't think its ugly, just that we've been here and done that visually since the 981 GT4, it really hasn't moved on enough in my opinion.

I was wondering what value to put on my patina (but numbers matching) LHD 76 911s.

Coupe (non sunroof)
Lobster red tweed interior
915 5 speed
original silver paint (patina)
Recently fully rebuilt 2.7 with MAHLE Nik pistons and barrels, reground crank, backdated heat
Megasquirt mappable Fuel Injection and sparks (trigger wheel, CoP, etc) Ethanol resistant fuel lines.
rebuilt pedal box, brake lines,

I was thinking £35k but maybe a bit too low, I imagine it would make a good back date candidate but it would be a shame to lose a very original (and unique) G body.

Looks like it needs a bit of finishing off, mostly old trim parts...

If it goes for £30k and even if you had to spend £5k on it, could be a nice little car for that! Certainly has a period feel!

That’s my thinking I’ve put in a higher bid so see what happens.

As you say dumping 5k into it would tidy it nicely and my thinking is that it’s really no money ?

Obviously unoriginal but that’s reflected in the price

I somehow doubt that will go for 30k, i think in Germany you can probably sell that as is for high double digits as after a little investment for low 3 digits. What am I missing?

You might be right however it’s not the original engine, no history & it still needs a fair amount of work .

Not long to go also but I think you might be right
