Well, it is a "cool aircraft" pictures thread - rather than a "cool blokes" thread. Although there is no doubt that Armstrong was the coolest of cool. He made Steve McQueen look like a hyper-agitated idiot.

It's part of the wing structure.

I took that pic!

It could well be part of the wing - some of the landing gear was further up the hill and the engines were further down in a stream so it would make sense for the wing to be nearby. It did however seem fuselage shaped. It is a bit eerie up there - especially the B-29 Superfortress site which is just above the Dakota.

I suppose the DC-3 was designed not that long after aircraft such as the Ford Trimotor and Junkers Ju52, which both used corrugation as a means of giving strngth to the structure.

The C47 and the B29 along with dozens of other wrecks including a Lanc, some Hurricanes and Spitfires, a Sabre jet, a Canberra, Avro Anson, HP Halifax, HP Hampden and many, many more wrecks are on the moorland of Bleaklow and Kinder Scout, north Derbyshire. Well worth a visit if you like that sort of thing.

C-130 also has corrugated inner skins on certain parts of the structure.

I've been to the B-29 a few times up there (and about 12 others around the eastern moors), but none of the others that side of Bleaklow.
