Inside - 6/10
The human centipede 2 - 4/10
A Serbian Film - 5/10
Loopers - 9/10
Cabin in the woods - started off 7/10....ended up 5/10
Chronicle - 6/10
Ohhh you are about to experience a whole world of pain when Moanthebairns get here he hates title and score and will consider your multiple crimes worthy of at least a good hanging.hehe
Ive gave up, I dont know if "a serbian film" was the title of the film or if it was a film from serbia.
My apologies.

Inside - Foreign film where a single pregnant woman gets terrorised in her home by a mental woman in black who is after the unborn baby. Full of gore with an 'interesting' ending.

The human centipede 2 - surely everyone knows what this is about. A bit gory but amusing simply because the main character is the doppelganger of a work colleague of mine.

Loopers - im not going to even bother explaining this as i'll end up spoiling it. Google is your friend here.

A Serbian Film - Thats the title. A hard up (excuse the pun)retired pornstar gets enticed back into the porn world by big money. This time its 'artistic' porn. somewhere along the line he gets drugged and loses a few days. He then discovers what went on during those few days which included some not very nice things.

Cabin in the woods - Starts off as your usual teenagers in the woods getting killed by some zombies but has a good twist to it all even if it does get a bit daft at the end.

Chronicle - 3 students, one a social outcast, get super powers. Social outcast becomes popular at the expense of said three's friendship. Surprisingly good film.

I watched Dark Knight Rises at the weekend. I though I recalled from here that it wasn't particularly good, and given that I am mildly contemptuous of superhero films I was expecting bad things. I thought it was brilliant though. Definitely the best batman for me, and to my suprise I thought the baddie was as good as Heath Ledger's Joker. Obviously full of cliches but thats the point of those films. Throughly reccomend. 8.5/10

I also watched whatever the new Bourne film was. Again, with trepidation due to this thread.
Again, I thought it was really good. Someone previously mentioned repitition of previous ones and a samey storyline. I half-agree with that but it wasnt a particularly bad thing. Only the same as James Bond and thats endured forever. I found it a bit confusing because the film started off trying to hunt Jason Bourne, and I couldnt tell whetehr the main characther was in fact Jason. Turns out that he is not even in it but it took me hours to work it out. Anyway, for the first 95% of the film I would given this an 8/10 for fast paced thrillery excellence.
FOr the ending, however, I can only give it 1/10, probably making the film average about a 6. One of the worst, lazy endings I can ever remember seeing. It is so clear they got 2 hours into the film and thought 'How the hell do we end this?' and concluded that they just wouldn't bother. Without wanting to spoil it, effectively the film ends mid-manhunt with exactly none fo the loose ends of the storyline tied up. It is just bizarre. It would have been fine if it was released as a 2 parter and not a stand alone film, but it wasn't , so it isnt. Still quite annoyed today

Also saw Batman....liked the previous ones but nothing special - yet thought this was superb. Kept reminding me that (unlike Avengers) you don't need to pitch Superhero movies at 10 year olds. Oh, and Bat Woman looked 10 times better than whatever Scarlet in Avengers was supposed to be! Good length too, given it had to wrap a lot of stuff up....glad they took their time.

Only downside and its being picky! SPOILERS:

Battys love interest - nothing special....quite surprised they even hooked up???

Tom Hardy could have wound down the gear and gone running a bit more, he looked lumpy more than scary. Like he was in off season!

And how Batman ends up getting beat up.....I thought that was pretty cold and the motivation of the one who set it up seemed lacking....as did the remorse shown later (and at the time) more so given how things turn out.

Oh, and Alfreds last scene - a glance and smile then cut would have been better rather than the pander to those who had to have a "definite" answer. I was quite disappointed we saw him.

Agreed, but spoilers might have been an idea - it's not exactly an old film!

Nope, I saw that but it was inconclusive. It was in a training centre hence he could have been there before.
Admittedly that was the point I started questioning things but it didnt become apparent until much later. And given that the film was still titled "Bourne" then its pretty reasonable to assume that he will be in it.
I subsequently discovered that the timeline was in tandem with the previous Bourne, which might have made it more coherent if you can remember the minutae of a film you watched 6 years ago, which of course none of us can

Brave - 4/10 - Disney/Pixar production and whilst the visuals are to the expected high standard I found myself 'drifting away' from the film as the story wasn't enough to hold me. But then I'm not a 7 year old I s'ppose. That said, its no Finding Nemo, Toy Story, Monsters Inc etc

Spiderman (new one) - 3/10 - Same old same old for me. I have no idea why they've rebooted this so quickly on the heels of the previous trilogy. Some horrendous CGI shots of the lizardy thing. I expected at least a new take on this character but frankly it could have been the last bloke playing him again and I'd not have noticed.

All in all, £7 wasted at Blockbuster this weekend.

If you liked that try Warrior King (original title Tom yum goong)
Basically Tony Jaa goes to Australia to rescue his elephant, thats about it for the plot. Beats up lots of people on the way.

TO be fair to them, this all makes sense once you know it. It is the one film that I wish I had read something about before watching, and ironically one of the very few films I didnt know anything about.

Yeah I've seen that one a while ago. Equally amazing fight scenes but for aerial acrobatics (jackie chan style) this film has it licked.

Two cracking films....more needed.

(puts brain back in head)

Agreed - I was pleased I'd actually had a good look at the plot notes before watching as the punter reviews said it was confusing at the start.

The Dark Knight Rises. Turgid. Complex. Disjointed. Grand. Perplexing. Obtuse. Derivative. Disorganized. Federated. Dull. Ponderous. Imperceptible. Inert. Supine. Baronial. Fallacious. Undeveloped. Flawed...

After the Sunset. Pierce Brosnan has the patent on characters that are charmlessly smug. Something tells me that he's like some upmarket Beckham. He's lived with the arched eyebrow, and pseudo-entitlement for so long, he believes he was born that way. Brett Ratner is a foul director. Don Cheadle, an excellent actor usually, seems to have a 'De Niro' mode - one in three films are good, and the rest is just for pin money. Harrelson, post 'Indecent Proposal' and 'White Men Can't Jump' seems to have found his groove playing characters who are happily downtrodden, second best. This would be in the 'Bad Films...' thread but for two things:

1) I've never posted in there before

2) Salma Hayek is delectable and provides the film with it's only saving grace

Jumper. Interesting premise. Christiansen is one of the most wooden and limited actors ever pushed by Hollywood, and Rachel Bilson will never be a sex symbol, just a footnote from a three season popular series. Sort of tired/bored of seeing Samuel L Jackson in everything. He must be the hardest working man in cinema today, but it's at a tipping point - been that way maybe for a few years - when his persona is transcending the part he plays. It's one thing for him to slime his way through 'Jackie Brown' to wonderful effect, but when you have a franchise like the Star Wars prequels, amongst their myriad of failings was the casting of people who were so readily indentifiable with other film parts. It just detracted. It was the inert charm of the original stanzas that people like Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were relative unknowns thrown into the mix with someone of genuine pedigree (Guiness). Back to 'Jumper': great to see an AMG thashed through Tokyo, but Jamie Bell is hard on the ears, and the rest of it is simply for one, brainless, visit only.

Source Code

A military helicopter pilot wakes up to discover he is part of an experiment to prevent terrorist attacks by being sent into the past to utilise the 8 minute memory of a victim of a train bomb.

Liked the concept, thought it was executed superbly by Duncan Jones (director of Moon - a PH favorite).

Two things irked me:

1) the ending was a cop out.

2) Jeffrey Wright, consistently good as Felix Leiter in the recent Bond films, was AWFUL. I have not seen such a hammy performance for a long long time. Dreadful acting.

Still, highly recommended.

7.8/10
