For the love of ..Why are we banging on about EV s again in Harry s thread when we ve just been treated to some exotic Italian V12 lovelyness..?
ThisMost of us who are not dogmatically anti-EV have and enjoy EVs as well as petrol cars.
I mean who suggests eating Ben and Jerrys salted caramel ice cream for breakfast on the grounds that Cheerios have no soul?
Not diesel though, there are limits

As a matter of interest are there any diesel hybrids? As you can probably guess they’re not my thing hence the question. Most of us who are not dogmatically anti-EV have and enjoy EVs as well as petrol cars.

Land Rover briefly offered diesel hybrid Range Rover and Range Rover Sport around 2013-2016. They didn't sell very well, I've heard some horror stories with ongoing maintenance costs but never experienced one myself.Land Rover took a bunch of prototypes and kitted them out for an expedition along the Silk Trail, probably one of the last cool expeditions they managed with a Range Rover.

I looked briefly at the C300de estate a few years ago.2.0 turbo diesel, plug in hybrid, air suspension.
I was getting rid of an E350CDI which had been an unreliable money pit.
Took a good look at the C class, and took a good fast run away from it.

I have a D350 Range Rover that is a mild-hybrid and the power train is smooth, fast and economical.

That is bang on, and all the mild hybrid does is smooth the stop/start out really. I'm not sure if it helps a touch with removing a bit of the lag from the turbos as well though? But I might be talking out my backside with that though.
Compared to the earlier non-mild-hybrid Range Rover diesels with 30-35mpg on a run, the new mild-hybrid diesels easily do 40-45mpg on a run. Mine hit 50mpg once. So perhaps there’s a bit more going on than just a start/stop facility which I turn off every time anyway. Lovely to have uninformed debates on PH though

I can't turn the start/stop off in the X5 I believe, but I do usually do it in the other cars though if they've had it. Our MHT X5 40d usually does around 45mpg overall, so decent really for something so big and heavy I think.
