For the love of ..Why are we banging on about EV s again in Harry s thread when we ve just been treated to some exotic Italian V12 lovelyness..?
This
{applause}
Because Harry s channel is about cars and EVs ate an increasingly important part of that.

Most of us who are not dogmatically anti-EV have and enjoy EVs as well as petrol cars.

I mean who suggests eating Ben and Jerrys salted caramel ice cream for breakfast on the grounds that Cheerios have no soul?

Not diesel though, there are limits hehe

As a matter of interest are there any diesel hybrids? As you can probably guess they’re not my thing hence the question.

Land Rover briefly offered diesel hybrid Range Rover and Range Rover Sport around 2013-2016. They didn't sell very well, I've heard some horror stories with ongoing maintenance costs but never experienced one myself.

Land Rover took a bunch of prototypes and kitted them out for an expedition along the Silk Trail, probably one of the last cool expeditions they managed with a Range Rover.

Volvo had a diesel hybrid in the early V60s.

I have a D350 Range Rover that is a mild-hybrid and the power train is smooth, fast and economical.

I looked briefly at the C300de estate a few years ago.

2.0 turbo diesel, plug in hybrid, air suspension.

I was getting rid of an E350CDI which had been an unreliable money pit.

Took a good look at the C class, and took a good fast run away from it.

A mild hybrid is not a hybrid. It's just marketing bks.

"Glorified stop-start" as a Land Rover engineer told me when he came round to do a software update on my Disco Sport smile

That is bang on, and all the mild hybrid does is smooth the stop/start out really. I'm not sure if it helps a touch with removing a bit of the lag from the turbos as well though? But I might be talking out my backside with that though.

I think a proper derv hybrid would be a great thing, no nasty nox in urban environments and great economy everywhere else.

Compared to the earlier non-mild-hybrid Range Rover diesels with 30-35mpg on a run, the new mild-hybrid diesels easily do 40-45mpg on a run. Mine hit 50mpg once. So perhaps there’s a bit more going on than just a start/stop facility which I turn off every time anyway.

Lovely to have uninformed debates on PH though laugh

I can't turn the start/stop off in the X5 I believe, but I do usually do it in the other cars though if they've had it. Our MHT X5 40d usually does around 45mpg overall, so decent really for something so big and heavy I think.

Maybe it’s a generational thing but I can’t get excited about these, or in fact anything older than pre-80’s to be honest.
