The Post - Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep run the Washington Post and go against the US Government to publish secret documents on the Vietnam War. Dull, dull, dull. A poor relation to the Watergate scandal. 4/10

Super Troopers 2

Was prepared for disappointment as the first film is still the funniest thing I have ever seen, and thought there was no way this could be as funny - and it wasn't, but still very amusing and definitely worth a watch if you liked the first one. Just ignore Rob Lowe's Canadian accent, as that is terrible. Some great cameos, and some amusing returns for characters from the first film (meow guy).

8 Shenanigans out of 10 Meows.

Bohemian Rhapsody

I am a massive fan of Queen so was ready to be disappointed but it never came. Malek can't emulate the stage moves but he absolutely nailed the voice and mannerisms Those playing May and Deacon nailed it, Roger was close enough.
The whole film was well-judged, goosebumps in the first quarter then the emotional rollercoaster of his life which was discreet enough to acknowledge the depravity without being offensive. There were plenty of times when you well up.
It showed the shocking reviews given to Bo Rhapsody, at the time, all proved totally wrong. I really can recommend this film to the most hardened Queen fans.

9 Aeros out of a Wembley Stadium .

I was left with mixed feelings when I saw it the other night. Yes, the casting is spot on and the vocals are excellent (but not the actors own work apparently) and the songs are spot on, but... the storytelling itself felt entirely superficial with no depth to any of it. Just seemed to skip from one set piece scene to another with little context or examination of possible motivation. Bit like an over long pop video.

The Live Aid performance was good though

22 July

A film about the 2011 attacks in Norway by Breivik - dreadful day and the acting by some of the youngsters is first class.

During the portrayal of the attack in the first third, the way Breivik just wanders around calmly and indiscriminately shooting random innocents is truly shocking and chilling.

I could not agree more - the shooting scenes were shocking indeed.

Brilliant imo.
Awesome film simple and brilliant .
Loved this film but it gets some vicious comments on iMDB from drummers, understandably questioning the 'sweat' on the drums/cymbals when the kid was playing. It never happens.
Also, the 'educational approach' from the teacher; it just wouldn't exist these days. Teachers like that wouldn't find a place to teach, they'd be outed for that attitude.

All but the first three minutes of A Bridge Too Far.

I'd recorded it a while back, but hadn't seen it in the guide in time to hit record right at the start.

Talk about a blockbuster! And what a cast! Phenomenal film, proper epic running time, and made all the better when you get to the end credits and see the long list of acknowledgments, and the fact that many of the technical advisers to the film were actually there on Operation Market Garden.

Plenty of vehicle and aircraft historical accuracy "issues" for true pedants to get their teeth into, and some suspect scriptwriting/acting, but on the whole a really great war movie. Probably best watched in chronological order (of the real events) with Dunkirk (the good one with John Mills), The Battle Of Britain, Tora! Tora! Tora!, The Longest Day, and Bridge At Remagen...

Just back from seeing The Guilty which was fantastic. A danish film, it all happens in real time (or very close to it), all told from the perspective of the police officer. Ratchets up the tension all the way to the end - really really enjoyed it.

According to my Dutch neighbour it was the wrong bridge in the film!

Yes, the right bridge was too far.

It Comes At Night

Suspenseful and intriguing enough through most of the film, yet at the end feels a bit empty in a certain sense despite some st going down.

Much more psychological than supernatural.

Finally watched Drive, on my third attempt...glad I stuck with it, it's amazing, not what I expected at all. It felt like an 80s film, the lighting, and shots were excellent, as was the music. The acting, well it was nice to see Albert Brooks in something again, he's always watchable.
I checked the RLM review, they loved it too, they jived with a lot I thought, on the surface it sounds like typical fast and furious wk, but the way the European director shot it, didn't think they made films like that anymore, it could have been on Kermode's movie night back in the 90s.

Yep I found Drive very enjoyable. Interesting mix of actors and a sort of refreshing cinematography considering I thought it was going to be a shoot shoot, bang bang and broom broom type of film.

Seeing as it's Halloween, I'll be watching Hereditary for the first time later.

Bohemian Rhapsody.

Absolutely bloody brilliant!

Probably more relevant to my wife and ias Queen featured hugely in our life when we were in our 20s.

Annoyingly I got something in my eye during the Live Aid part near the end wink

9.5 Freddies/10 Champions.

100% Agree. Me and my wife absolutely loved it. She's been blasting Her Majesty ever since we left the cinema!
