Oh yes! We were at an airshow at Abingdon in 1985 (I think) where a Lightning flew. I don't recall whether it landed or not but the pilot flew over aat zero feet and ass fast as he was allowed. Jesus C was it loud, but only a second after the aircraft has actually passed! Beautiful machine. The weather was foul and I had told my eight year son we'd go up in DC3 but the cloud base was too low. Great day but we were all soaked to the skin.
A lad who I went to college with studying HNC chemistry decided to leave and apply for the RAF.

When I next heard of him he was flying these and was a member of the 'Tengah Tigers'.

Hell Yes.

Weston airshow around the same time - we used to sit on Brean Downs and watch the planes fly in and out of the airshow.

A lightning went over at very low altitude and I swear I remember the gound vibrating under me - loudest thing I've ever heard.
These used to fly around over the town when I lived in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia about 40 years ago. Awesome !
Initial climb rate 50,000 feet per minute.
great video of it being the only interceptor in the world fast enough to intercept Concorde and attained a height of over 88,000ft in 1983 not bad for a fighter that first flew inn 1954 ! it was faster than the F16 , F14 tomcats and the starfighter .

John Peel himself. 10 til midnight mon- Thur iirc. Most eclectic DJ ever. His affectionate pet name for his wife always amused me.

At least that wife wasn’t a child.
Ah, I was never aware of that side of his life. The early interviews are pretty bad.

Gerry Anderson's UFO series. Set years in the future, 1980.

Moonbase, Skydiver, secret headquarters under a film studio, green aliens and a pretty dark theme. Was it meant to be for kids or adults?

I stopped listening to radio one after they stopped doing the breakfast show.

I must be an outlier. They were two people that I absolutely could not stand and were almost certainly one of the reasons I stopped listening to R1.

I treated myself to the William Hartnell Dr Who DVDs and really wished I hadn't. The memories would have been better undisturbed.

I think it's aged relatively well. I had a Corgi Interceptor and the Spectrum Pursuit Vehicle, both of which fired things, which I liked.

SPV was from Captain Scarlet.

I liked the UFO music, indeed most of Barry Gray's work for Gerry Anderson projects.
