I’ll stick with a board thanks https://youtu.be/lnqbzhkkYNs?si=eDJ9b_UDdNZrY04K

When I started windsurfing in the 80s I remember I was stunned that the world speed record on a board had hit 30 mph. We’re doing this on regular freeride kit now most times we go out! …anyway, wind is picking up, so off out for a sail. The joy of being retired

Go for it, especially as most boats are faster than Picos.
I just looked up the PY number. 1260. That is very slow. Although a Topper is 1369Just like rental cars, they *are* the fastest sailboat

Been there and done that in a Topper, Laser, MR, Int 14 and others. Although I don't think I've managed 87 capsizes yet. The lovely things about the Topper are its flexibility, impact resistance and ease of use.

I estimate my speed at around 18knots, 20+ knots of wind. I had the traveller in too tight which caused the pitch pole.

I don't recall the dingys we had the school sailing club in the late 80's. Could have been Bosuns. But the name Topper definitely rings a bell and I knew of Lasers but we didn't have any of those.
Historically the 'learner boats' were Topper, Bosun and Enterprise. Occasionally the odd GP14, Wayfarer or Firefly was used and a Laser was only allowed if you had become proficient enough to handle the raw speed. I was taught how to sail in a couple of Int 14s. (Caveat, the first one was built in 1952 and the second one was built in 1936)McGee_22 said:

My father did something similar in the 1960's with the Jehovah's Witnesses lot. He invited them in, made them tea and coffee and gave them biscuits and let them try to sell their offer of salvation for 4 hours. He eventually looked at his watch, told them that he had to go to work (9pm shift worker) and booted them out of the door. It was too late for them to bother anyone else.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
