Another vote for Iron Man 3 here. smile

Didn't rate it on release, re-watched it back end of last year and actually really enjoyed it.

Here's an old one from the Boys Own Adventure Book

Rogue Male starring Peter o'Toole 1976.

In my book a good 7 Stiff upper lips / 10 Nazi killers, and would score higher if the print was better quality. Well worth a watch.

A full length film discovered on You Tube ( dare I say while browsing clips of W C Fields movies when I literally PMSL ! )
Yes, I will admit to eclectic tastes.
Thanks for the tip. I enjoyed it.

Escape Room

Imagine Final Destination for a family audience and you're somewhere close. How this ended up a 15 I have no idea, polar opposite to Red Sparrow (a very hard 15).

Passed the time pretty well, B movie nonsense but actually held it together until the somewhat inevitable ridiculous ending (all 6 of them).

Withnail &I

Hadn't seen this in many years.

Many a laugh out loud moment from this cult film. Extremely well acted by Richard E Grant and Paul McGann. Can Richard Griffiths act any differently, it doesn't really matter.

Favourite line. When accused of being drunk at the wheel of a car by the police, "I have only had a few ales. " You had to be there smile

12 years a slave.

Hard to call a film based on such horrific topic brilliant. But it is.

I did some googling after watching that film to see how deprived some of the slave owners were and in turn stumbled across the real meaning of mother fker.

Makes you want to puke

yes

Slavery is/was probably the most despicable of all human traits.

Right, back to the jokes...

I know I just walk away, but I am intrigued. What is the real meaning?

On YouTube there is a 1:40 video. Search for 'The true meaning of the term Motherfker'

They don't actually say that the word derives from that practice though, they merely said they ask people not to use it. Sounds a bit like appropriation to me.

It might be true, but I'd prefer to see some better evidence than a youtube video with an agenda and bookended by bible passages.

It is out there, it's not the only source, it was just the quickest. The bible bit is superfluous as it's not material to the explanation given as it's not a 'god' thing at all.

In US slaving, practice of breeding new slaves by getting strong black men to impregnate healthy women. Women could be related to stud as slavers apparently didn't care. Could even be his mother.

However, personally I would have thought the slavers would care and try to avoid that, as they'd only want to breed strong useful slaves, and they would have had a basic undersdtanding of the perils of inbreeding from animal husbandry. Dunno though, it's all abhorrent either way, natch.

Out there where? I'm not finding anything in any search for the etymology of the term.

I think there is something in wiki about it under Motherfker and the subsection 'This term did not originate in WWII.. this term originated during the slavery era in the US'

From there a couple of links are given but I haven't chased them down.

It will be hard to substantiate as black slaves could only pass it down orally not generally being able or allowed to read or write. Whats particularly upsetting is that the Males and Females were sometimes made to have sex wearing hoods so did not know they were Mother and Son.

Mike Davis ( probably the most famous of all jazz musicians) was black, and uses the word mf extensively in his autobiography. He called any musician that was good a “motherfker”

His brother Miles was even more famous than Mike.
