Even with the dvd money, it's only a profit if there was zero pr...which obviously there wan't., so it's still a loss either way

Costs to produce a film. That's all costs to produce the film?http://www.indiewire.com/2015/03/alex-garland-says...

They spent very little on marketing, it's the reason Urban gives for the movie not making more.
Karl - "Alex Garland has gone on record to say that Dredd was a Failure. I disagree. The movie itself was not a failure, in fact it was a critical success, it just failed to perform at the box office. How does a movie with a 78% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes fail? Through zero audience awareness. Nobody knew the movie was being released . Dredd represents a failure in marketing, not filmmaking ."

rule of thumb for normal films seems to be half the production budget, so an extra $25 million for pr, but for comic book films, it seems to be closer to 100% of the production budget (with extreme cases mentioned)
rlm boys have a great video on, and thenumbers they crunch are fun to look back on, from the future.

He's certaintly saying all the right things for someone who wants to play the part again in a sequel. Karl - "Alex Garland has gone on record to say that Dredd was a Failure. I disagree. Not saying he's not accurate, but unless we see the numbers for PR, it's all guesswork. It's rare for a film copany to wish to sink a film, so at least half the budget seems reasonable for worldwide. Which would make it at least $75 (edit, or 45 mill if you belive
dunno why I always think of him as a Kurt

It won't have made money. Even if you add the $35m box office and $20m in DVD sales, it cost $50m to make and no matter how little was spent on PR, I did see ads on the TV, posters etc so they did spend at least a bit. Very conservatively you are still looking at $10m PR budget so it made a loss of at least $5m.
On an investment of $50m, investors are going to want to see at least a 20% return, no two ways about it I'm afraid, it tanked.

...I think...The studio takes 55% of the profit from home releases, and 45% from outside the US. Disney causes a stink when they forced cinemas to give them 65% of the star wars films....I did something that talked about this in the star wars thread...it may be, 45/35/55
THis is a pretty good article on a winner/loser outlook.

He's either trying to span out limited speaking material or he's trying to be cooooool.
Indeed! I figured the former, since the intro was taking soooo long... Backfired, I gave up. At the point he said "the producers had nothing to say but will be announcing something very soon". Figured I'd wait for that then!Flip Martian said:

Sadly yes.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkhXSLmRbiE
ID Software have made it very clear that they have no involvement in this one.

I think so, but he's the only one (maybe Midnight's Edge) who is accurately covering this topic.

Lindybeige (historical Youtuber and Dredd fan) talks to Rebellion CEO (and historical warfare fan) owner of 2000AD comics Jason Kingsley about the comic, the films the potential TV series and more. And of course taking the piss out of the Stallone film.
