Maybe I was a little harsh on FBDO, certainly still think its a load of pap, but in terms of being overrated I've definitely found a new one to have a whinge about

Slumdog Millionaire. Seriously, how the hell did this win oscars and the like because its a fairly mundale film. Did Danny Boyle bribe the selection committee?

Oceans 11. Not the worst movie ever made but I though it was pretty poor. It's hailed as a great movie by many. I've only managed to sit through it once when it came out. It just seemed like the director wanted to cram in as many big stars in a movie as he could to show off without producing anything of substance. I didn't relate to, empathise with or care one jot for any of the characters by the end.

You can say that about 90% (or more, I suspect) of "Best Film" Oscar winners, IMO.

I quite enjoyed Slumdog Millionaire. It's just a fable really, but quite well done for what it is.

The Cohen brothers have done some bad movies and some good movies like most directors. Some I like:
Barton Fink
O brother, where art thou?
Millers crossing
No country for old men
I'd like to see Blood Simple and Fargo but I've not seen them yet. I agree that Lebowski is over-rated IMO. It's not bad, but it's not great IMO.

Like I said earlier I like the first matrix movie but the sequels are pretty disappointing.

Also to everybody who hates Tarantino my response in the style of youtube haters is: I HATE YOU AND EVERYTHING YOU STAND FOR! WHY DONT YOU JUST DIE YOU F*****ING A****OLE M*******FWKAAAHHGGGGRRRR! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! THIS IS EVERYFING THTAS Wrong wIT dISs c***NTRY! WAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
Hehe only kidding! biggrin They are only movies after all but I've got all his stuff he wrote/directed apart from Django Unchained on dvd or blu-ray.

Grease I don't mind to be honest it's ok and I liked the musical they did off the back of the catchy songs.

Also I love Trainspotting but I agree that Slumdog Millionaire and 48 hours get so much hype and both movies I'd put in the better than average or quite good category they aren't great IMO. Haven't seen 'Shallow Grave' yet I want to see it. The first episode of 'Babylon' that has been hyped and is directed by him was good though so I'm not 'anti-boyle' or 'anti-hype'! Anyway those two movies get hyped up and I don't think they are worth the hype.

As for Will Ferrell movies and him getting a comedy award recently. An average stand up comedian and actor he seems to have got all the lucky breaks in life other more talented people didn't. I feel a bit bad saying this because he may be a lovely guy who works really hard but although Anchorman wasn't terrible I didn't find it funny. Ben Stiller movies I'd put in the same category really. Sorry to fans. I feel the same way about what Ricky Gervais does and he seems to be a bit of a c**k but his stand up is ok I suppose.
Will Ferrell being 'funny' is like watching an old clown at a kids party who isn't very good. He really tries too hard with weak material and cliched, cringey stereotypes. If I was American maybe I'd 'get' it?

Well one of them. The film in question is Ferris Bueller's day off. Finally managed to record and watch it after hearing quite alot about it over the years.

All I can say is, what a load of bks, I've read some tripe on this film, some people waxing lyrical about how its a seminal film but seriously I thought it was just guff. For a started Ferris is deeply unlikeable. I just spent the film wanted him to get busted or his friend to realise what a total bellend he is and how he is using him for his own ends. Then there is the element to the film called comedy or lack thereof. I don't think I even raised a titter the entire film and I'm not really the sort who goes out of their way to not like but seriously, is a mohawk in the shower and singing into a shower head funny? hmm and whats the music set piece on the float all about.

I'm not sure why its held in such revere, maybe you had to be of the period. I.e an angst ridden teen in the 1980s. Me well my teen years were in the 90s. I was firmly disappointed.

That said Mia Sara cloud9 that Ferrari cloud9

Not enough of anything at all, as I recall. Got up to make a cuppa, didn't occur to me to pause it. Don't think I missed anything.

The Green Mile - patronising saccharine coated tosh

Hurt Locker - unrealistic premise and totally flawed.

Ronin - apart from the car chase - what is it? nothing.

I think you just might be part of a small minority ....Why didn't you like it ? Plot, acting (doubtful with Hoffmann and Voight ), score?
