Thinking about this a bit further...

Would removing the stairs altogether not be a better idea?

What's the chances of the perps arriving with a ladder?

Virtually none, I'd wager.

Job jobbed.
So less "dominate the stairs", more "demolish the stairs"?

In all seriousness now, I think this ^^ is the crux of the matter.

If you're honestly willing to risk your life, or worse your family's lives, over £500, £1,000 or whatever it may be in lost excess/NCD then you're either not wired up correctly or maybe you're in too deep financially?

By the time you've gone all Krav Margaret on the crims and spilled their blood all over the staircase you were dominating, it will probably cost you more in replacing bloodstained carpets than you've saved.

Better still, remove stairs 5 and 10 but cover loosely with the stair carpet. Two broken legs and two squashed testicles should be enough.

Someone I know had his Polo GTI taken in the same manner from a nearby village by the same gang, not sure if they have been caught yet but they were running around taking the cars with seeming impunity.

You can add another Polo GTI to the list. A similar thing happened to me last week actually.

I was car jacked outside of my house early on Tuesday morning (25th). As I started my car they opened the door and dragged me out before driving off. It happened very quickly but thankfully I was unhurt. Still shocked by the whole situation though. We live in a fairly nice suburb of Birmingham so wasn't expecting it at all. Not easy going out to work every day now.

My car is a six months old white 5dr manual VW Polo GTI, 16MY. Reg LG16 FPP. If anyone has seen it (however unlikely that might be!) please let me and the authorities know.

Ta. Will
Lots of cars get 'lifted' in birmingham - best approach is to reverse in if you can and have gates frown

If more people fought back, this wouldn't be a problem.

You never hear of banks being robbed at gunpoint in 2016 do you, no, because it is too difficult.

Working practice in America is to hand over money whether the bankrobber uses a threatening weapon or not. A poster note is usually enough.

Not sure how America is relevant here?

That or park on a different neighbours drive each night so they don't know whose house to invade.

23 robberies. £1.5m. Six people. £10,800 per person per robbery.

Risk vs reward.

Nothing worth stealing nowadays compared to the risk of getting caught. All the successful bank robbers now do it online.

Blah blah blah. I've been to a few Krav Maga classes, funnily enough the instructors all had the same response when I asked them what they would do if faced with someone threatening them with a knife. . Same response from the leaders of the defence courses when I worked at a few prisons. The response was always that they would run in the opposite direction. Some of these guys were built like brick sthouses and they all shared the same view.

I guess they were all wrong and we should all bow down to your knowledge and sheer alpha male qualities.
THAT sounds like BS. Are you seriously telling me that prison staff deal with confrontation by running away? Running where? It is a fking prison!!!
Yep total bullst. IDF trained to run away. Utter balls.

Giblet sounds like a proper fairy.
I never claimed to be a hard man unlike you. I've witnessed prison officers running to the nearest gate and getting away from an incident when they were outnumbered. I'm betting they were waitng for you two to be sent in to dominate the wing.

I spent 14 years in Prisons. I never saw anyone run from where they could intervene to prevent staff getting injured.

A couple years ago there were 4 or 5 break ins on and around my street. Mostly they went for the keys to any old car grabbed couple things on way out and drove off. On the last attempt I heard this car bouncing off the limiter while waiting for his mate. It was a peasant spec mk5 Astra. You would of been pissed off leaving the keys downstairs for these two to turn up and help themselves.
I hope an armed gang don't come to do a proper job, id probably have to go down in my dressing gown to show them how to unlock the garage door. 4 sided key that can only go in one way in the dark may be a bit tricky for them while in a hurry.
