Gendry didn't have to run far, the Walkers weren't too far beyond the wall, Bran's Raven vision showed that. The only odd thing is how little distance the Walkers have gone since Hardhome (Red), compared to how far Jon Snow has travelled (Green)

The whole WW movements are a bit odd, various theories on it. ONe is that the Night King needed a dragon, and so had to twiddle his fingers for a while, at the same time building up his puppet army of...100,000s?
There is nothing sloppy about AS character in S7.
The books had her going in circles by the end, in fact it was a really hard slog through the last one - and I read them before GOT came out and it was *hip* - with lots of very indeterminate meandering. The AS story in particular was very much "FFS, move it on a bit George, we get it already, now stop bloody repeating the same sodding thing", so her morphing into the killer character was very much in line with her story arc. S7 just speeded things along a bit.

I thought the AS arc did OK but obviously suffered from a fifth season of book running out followed by an escape so bizarre it broke the suspension of disbelief.
Her arc is basically finished once she killed the Frey's and became basically unkillable- she's Ninja Stark, Bran is Wizard Stark, John is Soldier Stark, Sansa is Politician Stark and the dream team are all in the same place to fight the Big Bad.
I'd love it if the Night King got to Winter fell and thought "f
k fighting that!" and headed straight south.
I think, even if we had the books, the endgame would be less satisfying than the midpoint simply due to the nature of storytelling and the need for a tidy end. Lots of different journeys need to end and there's no time to do them all justice.

From the terminator running to the no plan to escape, to the murdering all freys as Walder to the 'that's not you' to nymeria, to the beating Brienne, to the ptsd letting the Lannister's survive it's all rotten uneven writing.
95% of that is standard GRRM randomness!Everything that has ever happened to every character in every episode, or something like that

Why do you say that? Is it that the Faceless Men have such strong abilities they are invulnerable?Re: being unkillable- not invulnerable, no, I mean that no-one who isn't supernatural is going to trouble her without an army. Or poison, which she probably knows more about than most.
If she can assasinate all of the Frey's and Walder himself and kill the Waif blindfolded then her disguise and killing abilities are top notch, and she can duel with Brienne 1 on 1 with that you sword. When Sansa pulled her to court, they had a roomful of soldiers as a precaution.
Hmmm... just found this on an article from a few days ago:
HBO confirmed this would be the case when they released the official Game of Throne season eight runtimes on their TV schedule in March 2019.
Runtimes for Game of Thrones season eight are:
• Episode one – 54 mins
• Episode two – 58 mins
• Episode three – 60 minutes
• Episode four – 78 minutes
• Episode five – 80 minutes
• Episode six – 80 minutes
Given the run time of Ep 1 I reckon it’s all set ups for what’s to come and of course Dany’s big introduction to the North. Can’t see there being deaths in the first one.
The problem they’ll have with main character deaths is how many main characters they have and how they give service to their deaths without taking up massive screen time. Especially in battle. I expect we’ll lose someone like the Hound or Tormund in battle and it won’t get much screen time. I hope the Hound makes it though, we need a Clegane bowl before it’s all wrapped up.
