It is fun to Micky take the Septics as mentioned earlier but we do need to appreciate that geography and economics drive much of what is behind those decisions. Living in a small country with short distances between cities makes it much easier to opt for smaller vehicles as well as it being more necessary.
This. Our complaints about 250 miles of range and 5m long vehicles are meaningless to the US population. And have you seen the physical size of the average US family..
Can't mock US Weebles. Like ours, they've been spearheading the adoption of EVs.

Americans buy more SUVs/Crossovers than cars. Newer data is difficult to find. But US market has not changed radically since 2016.
A quick google suggests SUVs have more than 40% of the market in 'europe', wherever that is....

Exactly how tall a hatchback has to be to qualify as a 'crossover' may be arguable?

Not really sure there's much 'sport' in these 'UV' things.

It's for your "sporty" lifestyle, you know, all that surfing, snowboarding, downhill mountain biking, rock climbing, paragliding, the normal daily stuff that average British people mostly use their SUV for.

Good luck to anyone trying to get the Americans to give up their SUV's and trucks, you'd have about as much chance of getting them to agree to gun controls I suspect.
Yeah - they seem extremely nervous and often feel the need to over compensate. (See top three vehicles for details)

No, there is quite a lot of logic in it.

People turned to SUVs when engines got a bit more efficient and speed cameras reduced average speeds, so the fuel costs of pushing a moque-evoque through the air became reasonable.

The drag factor of a bingo hall doesn't matter for a shopping car.
Drag factor of a bingo hall? Shopping car? Really?

Looks like we can also add leaning over like a drunk at a piss-pot to the list.
Visually challenged? SpecSavers can help hehe
The funny part is that you actually think that looks good. You’re well past anything SpecSavers could help you with. Maybe therapy instead? laugh

No I was questioning your comment about leaning over like a drunk at a piss-pot. I wrote nothing about looking good. Where did you see that? nerd

Which makes compliant Brits a very soft touch...
Well they need their guns to protect themselves because there are so many guns out there... go figure silly

For several years, I worked in a team which included North Americans. Subject of guns arose occasionally. When I asked their thoughts about gun control, an American colleague responded:

"What would you do if the police turned against you, and you couldn't defend yourself by shooting back?" shoot

Well that took the wind out of my sails. American culture is different...

You're thinking about this all wrong. This is about money as everything always is. By forcibly weaning its population off of oil reliance, the UK can become the Saudi Arabia of the renewable energy world. Rich beyond our wildest dreams biggrin

Secondary benefits of lower environmental impact, improved local air quality, plus an exciting new automotive technology development chapter are just a bonus.

This jumped out at me from the article.

article said:
nearly two-thirds (63%) of gun deaths in the US in 2019 were suicides.

Do you know what, I think I agree with you . The thought of driving up the Kings Rd, in a gold foil wrapped Lambo, pissing off all the locals ( & I used to be one) sounds fantastic, bring it on. driving
