Bullitt
This was on the other day and having watched a documentary about Steve McQueen I thought I would watch it. Funnily enough I don't recall ever having watched the whole thing before.
I really enjoyed it, it was well shot and had some very atmospheric bits and cool all over the place. It just shows that a good film is a good film.
Me too only ever watched the car chase growing up but recently sat down start to finish and realised that Johnny Ross was not the real guy the real villan was at the end , yes good film and few know that the bad guy in the Mopar/Chrysler was the stunt driver (Bill Hickman) and that the Mopar is the bad boy of the two cars in the movie not the Mustang that so many lust after This was on the other day and having watched a documentary about Steve McQueen I thought I would watch it. SPR is an OK film, there are better if that's the vibe you want, but all you have to do is start it post landings, and it'll be all OK.
That and to be honest there are some potentially upsetting parts after the landings, someone dying slowly calling for their "Momma" is pretty horrific, not to mention the panicked pleading whispers as a knife is slowly plunged into another characters chest, but apart from that yer fine.
glad it is not just me
Vin bleeding to death under the aim of the sniper (who then gets shot in the eye), soldiers burning to death from Molotov cocktails, bodies blown to pieces by a 20mm cannon etc etc
It's like watching Bambi !!!
(I often fast forward through that knife scene)

It's the fact that it is slowly slid, not plunged, that gets me.skeeterm5 said:

Seems to have been on a couple of times recently - it was again yesterday evening. This was on the other day and having watched a documentary about Steve McQueen I thought I would watch it. Funnily enough I don't recall ever having watched the whole thing before.

I have the DVD (which I watched a couple of months ago) but the TV version appears better quality (pity about the endless advert breaks) - cool film though & has aged very well.

You found Alita to be painfully generic, but you love TLJ and STD.....
I don't even know what STD is!But yes, Alita was for me very by the numbers, painfully so at times. I was shocked that it's had something like 20 years of development, it didn't feel like it. The ending is borderline offensive. TLJ, for all its faults, at the very least swings for the fences a bit.
Anyhow...
The Kid Who Would Be King
Another original film that has bombed, hard. A shame as it's great fun, visually wonderful and a real throwback to 80s/90s adventure films. I think this is going to do a Scott Pilgrim and find an audience once it has left theatres. Highly recommended, particularly so if you have 9-12 year olds etc.
The Lego Movie 2
I reviewed this a week ago and didn't get on with it, although it was a very rare case of a frustrating cinema trip with annoying kids constantly up and down. I found a quiet evening screening today and just got completely immersed in it. I think I may have even enjoyed it as much as the first film. Again it really doesn't look for the easy cash in route, it goes deep on some pretty adult themes (and has some great songs).

It's the fact that it is slowly slid, not plunged, that gets me.Probably more relevant to me as two of my German uncles died as young lads, ( 16 and 18) on the Russian front.

Well, to be fair I just looked at his IMDB info and, ok, I've seen and enjoyed American Sniper but other than that I'm not sure what I've been missing? I like all the Avengers / Marvel stuff and yeah, it seems like he voices one of the Guardians of the Galaxy characters so maybe I should have known that ..... maybe.
Surely you have seen The Hangover?Interesting chat, I know Bradley Cooper, but from GotG. I checked his filmogrpahy, the only other thing I've seen is the atrocious A-Team film (Wedding Crashers as well but that was a bit part). It's a name I'm aware of, but couldn't have named any films beyond the GotG and A-Team, and the huge current hit as well.
I was aware that there was a film called Hangover, but it looked like a typical modern s
tty comedy to me, so I gave it a wide berth. I gave it a window when it was on telly to see if it was any good but it wasn't and I stopped it. All I Know from the film is that MIke Tyson was in it and a fat beard guy and a guy from the Office. Cooper didn't register. I only know the Office Guy (now) because I've been watching the Office every week for a few months. The films are fairly easy to miss.

but not the 3 Hangover movies which were massive and nearly unavoidable
Well I've managed to avoid them as they aren't my thing. I'm aware of their existence though. Didn't know Bradley Cooper was in them.
