Also, does anyone remember the short-lived club at the bottom of St Mary's street? Remember going a few times after it had just opened but then a stabbing early days meant it didn't last long (shocking in that location eh...?). It was down by the church at the bottom end of the street.
Yep I remember it - was called 'Jollies' was it not?I quite liked it, I went there a few times because they often had live bands there. I remember it had like an atrium / balcony type thing around the 1st floor which looked down onto the stage / dance floor, so you could sit and have a drink whilst having a good view of the band downstairs.
I also remember it was quite cheap to get into / buy drinks.
Was a shame it closed - but I didn't know there was a stabbing there do you remember why / any details?

I remember going there a few weeks after it opened. Wasn't long before there was quite a lot of violent issues and it's licence was constantly teetering on the edge as a result.
I used to have to go to the church opposite every so often when I was at school (KES). Very different experience to when I was a few years older and what I got up to in the club opposite.
I was quite lucky as a lad. Despite living in the backwater of Sarisbury Green, at 16 years old the old man's Bat and Ball was turned into Flat Foot Sams and became one of the young person's haunts. It was 500 yards from where I lived and so Friday night's was usually Flat Foots, occasionally Sunday too. We would tend to alternate that with Ocean Village and Bojangles, weather dependent. As I say, sometimes we did Thursday nights in McCluskies around that time as I think it was cheap drinks and there was a barmaid with massive norks that I knew and who used to undercharge me something brilliantly.
Saturday nights when I was 16 - 20 were usually in Portsmouth as Southampton had pretty poor nightlife in 94 - 98. When Lager World opened we spent more time in Soton but otherwise it was the joys of Southsea sea front and more often than not 5th Avenue. I remember seeing Gina G giving it some in there - leggg!
Then the occasional visit to Martines (Guildhall walk not the Martines 2 in Eastleigh), the Pyramids used to host a good night I think once a month, can't think what that was called either but it was showcased as some stylish evening ha ha ha! Scandals, another dive.
Bloody hell. Where did the last 15 or so years go (the bottom of various bottles it seems). I'm still out 5 nights a week until the early hours so nothing much has changed other than my location.

I grew up in Locks Heath and remember going to the Bat and Ball when it was the Bat and Ball as a kid which was a good few years ago. This was also when there was a Berni Inn (remember them) just over the Hamble River. Its all housing now though.

My parents live in Holly Hill Lane and I used to occasionally accompany them to a meal at the Bat and Ball. I also remember me and my brother playing cricket on the green and my bro putting a ball through both the BnB window and the One Stop window in the same afternoon. Great times

not quite as good as Academy, i miss that place
Now there's a blast from the past! I touched my first boob on the dancefloor there. Through the bra though, I'm not a monster. The real deal came afterwards down the alleyway between there and London Road - got to keep some things between just the two of you, haven't you?Aaah, Nicky Shakespeare. Good memories, good boobs, good times.

Meoncross ! State primary for me (warsash). I started KES in 92, left in 99. Ben Dixon and a few of his mates from Locks Heath used to go there.
I was at KES, left in 1987, dreadful results, didn't bother with 6th form, went on a YTS in a boatyard much to the horror of KES staff and my parents.Huntsman said:

Ah, you were "that one" of 87. In a school year of 125 students, 90% of which are already looking beyond their A-levels to red brick universities, there's always that one that, even with the benefits of one of Hampshire's finest educational establishments, drops out at 16 with barely anything to their name.
I was the one for 95.
Hands up here for the Hayling version for '84 I was the one for 95.
Didn't turn out too bad though did we?
Did we?
No really, did we?

First few years of my life were in Locks Heath Park road and also had a spell in my early 20's drinking down the Lock Stock with a crowd of friends (usually followed by a curry at the Indian Garden on Friday nights). I still have a lot of mates in the area (we may well have a few in common as it sounds as though you are a similar age).
My parents live in Holly Hill Lane and I used to occasionally accompany them to a meal at the Bat and Ball. I also remember me and my brother playing cricket on the green and my bro putting a ball through both the BnB window and the One Stop window in the same afternoon. Great times
Well it seems we both know a certain dtmpower anyway My parents live in Holly Hill Lane and I used to occasionally accompany them to a meal at the Bat and Ball. When my parents moved into the area we lived in Priory Park - it was still being built then and was a lot less than it is now - before moving to Locks Road.
The Lock Stock always never seemed to be that great even when it was new. A bit like the Talisman which was also pretty dire until Badger did a total refurb on it.
The area has changed a lot over the years really...

I regret not going to university for the women.Didn't turn out too bad though did we?

I have never regretted the absence of student debt.
By 22 I had a great waterside apartment and the first of my TVR's parked outside. Not sure that would have been the scene if I'd have followed the path expected of me by parents and teachers. To be fair, I think they wanted me to get more qualifications, not laid more.
