Well, they're bloody well aren't now, that's for sure. I blame CAD myself. A modern take on an 'old' style. Bloody fantastic !!!

Do you know what CAD does?

I could bang together any of these old car shapes if you wanted.

The reason cars don't look like this any more is because of safety legislation, contemporary styling requirements and aerodynamics.

They do look lovely though!
Yes I do ! Having worked with it for the past 25yrs. Legislation doesn't 'produce' ugly cars. They can end up out of proportion a bit though.

All these streamliners are blooming lovely, that's for sure, but they are an aerodynamic disaster area - those faired in wheels are the same basic cross section as a lift generating wing. You would need spoilers and winglets to keep them on the ground at modern speeds which would ruin the look.
Relax. Stick to 80 mph and be beautiful.

It's taken me until later life to start to appreciate the cars of this, and earlier eras. Before, I used to write them off as before my time and just something I didn't understand.
I'll be listening to Radio 3 next.

Right.... because it is so cheap and easy to go out and buy an Art Deco streamliner, isn't it. wink

Some are and some aren't.

For example, the Morgan and Wiesmann production cars are production cars. silly

It has a straight 8 engine behind the passengers, all built on a tubular steel chassis with hydraulics to open the rear to access the engine and transmission.

ok so perhaps i didnt explain properly.

its fking stupid to blame CAD. better? CAD is a program, it doesn't design anything.

if consumer tastes meant streamlined cars were wanted, manufacturers would design then [using CAD].

And yet this thread exists and people are saying how much they love these designs. That doesn't mean that the market is viable for cars like this, but also it doesn't invalidate the opinions of the people posting on this thread.

Your argument appears to be that this thread should be closed and custom car makers like Chip Foose, Rick Dore, Gas Monkey Garage, and the like should shut up shop because you have spoken and decreed that if there were a demand for these cars then all the mainstream manufacturers would be making them.

Anyway, less talk, more cars...

These are Rick Dore ones. You may have seen him on the Discovery TV Show "Extreme Hoarders"

General Motors made 12 of these Futurliners to all roll into town and act as a mobile exhibition. Must have been some sight.

Ok, my mistake. Lets just drop it and move on rather than derailing a rather wonderful thread. smile

Not often you see such cars being used, this was at Mallory Park in June 2012.
