It's not as if it's the first female-fronted franchise though. Off the top of my head we've had Alien, Underworld, Resident Evil, Catwoman, Ghost in the Shell, Aeon Flux, Electra, Tank Girl, Underworld, even Mad Max Fury Road or Terminator 2. It does look like a good film and I am looking forward to watching it, but the degree it's being politicised is ridiculous
Of those, only Alien, Resident Evil and Underworld could really be "female led franchises" - the rest were either s
te, didn't delivery at the box office, or definitely marketed with the male stars heavily promoted regardless of their status in the film itself, or not franchises...Have you tried watching Aeon Flux? Or Electra? Or Catwoman?
Wonder Woman is actually a good film, and it isn't because it has a woman as the lead or a female as a director. Those two things happen to be the case, yes, and there is an element of that being used as a marketing tool, but it's not been too heavy in my opinion.

Despite the 12A rating, it's more of a war movie with a superhero in it than a typical superhero blockbuster. Some younger kids who are comfortable with GOTG might be scared, not to mention few erotic moments and innuendos. Keep that in mind when taking family to the cinema.
Solid 7/10 from me, and I usually don't watch action superheroes so it's saying a lot.
I found the line about "little thing telling you what to do" quite clever, it whooshed right over my daughter's head.

The thing with popular culture is that it doesn't matter if you're not the first, or not critically the best received or any number of other factors - what matters is having the right combination of factors at the right time. Just back from watching it, enjoyed it a lot.
Excellent balance of humour and superhero stuff, Gal Gadot absolutely nails it (the little smirk when she goes over the top, loved it).
First two thirds were spot on, the stuff on the island, the fish out of water stuff and the war, all brilliant.
Sadly the usual DC/superhero trope of a rubbish dark battle at the end, they just can't help themselves can they?
Not enough to ruin it though and the running time breezed by quicker than anything over 2hrs I can remember for some time.

Finally got to watch it and thought it was really good. Not a 5 star landmark in film making, but a solid 4 star action film I'd buy n Blu Ray. Gadot was really good in the role, strong whilst still being vulnerable, and had excellent chemistry with Chris Pine. The fish out of water scenes were well done and the action was really good, even the third act which a lot of others felt was the weakest. A few cliches and the 300 style slow down/speed up shots are a bit overdone now, and whilst I know it's not meant to be a documentary it's full of inaccuracies about WW1 (like British Mark IV tanks at the German base, or planes that were withdrawn well before 1918). But overall, really good.
Only just noticed it was Lucy Davis playing the secretary. She's changed a bit since her last Office job......

I actually preferred the other DC efforts. This just felt a bit light & cheap. It was more coherent than the others but that might be because it had such a simple plot.
And that accent just got annoying, though not as annoying as the whole crowd of Amazons trying to do even worse versions.

I finally got around to watching this, I can't say I was overly impressed.
I liked the story and the acting was OK, but the cgi was obvious and overused, the Amazons' fighting scenes were over the top (seems there are points for style in battle), and the slow motion bits were just a joke. It felt to me like they were just pointing out the subtle bits I had to notice, which made them really obvious. I mean, slow motion of the guy noticing someone following him in the street?
I wanted to like it, I feel they were trying too hard though.

A grown adult, male or female, seeing a superhero as their role model is pretty sad to be honest.
I think it's more to do having representation on the screen. The comments on Mayo & Kermode, Facebook reviews etc seem to confirm plenty of women have been quite moved by the film and what it represents.
Best part of that film is the cosplay in the following years
