I like the looks of most Audi's, yet find Bmw's ugly, so it does show how subjective it all is.

the alfa giulia does at least show that it's possible to create a really good looking modern saloon.
Which is interesting. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, of course, however I find the Alfa looks generic, like something Korean, as it's taken elements from others in the sector, like the 3 Series, and created an amalgam. The 159 looked far more brand specific.

The 3 Series, on the other hand, is boring by virtue of being ubiquitous, however it's nicely proportioned and detailed, in that it couldn't be mistaken for anything other than a BMW and has few elements that could be described as willfully ugly. The M3 is different again and might have a greater proportion of people saying it's ugly, due to its pumped-up nature and fussy front end.
Yeah, I did touch on these things in my full post. The 159, 156 and 166 were all lovely looking cars in my opinion and I do agree stronger designs than the Giulia. However I do think in basic form the Giulia is a nice looking uncluttered design. Not so convinced by the hot versions.

Never had a big problem with the 3 series. They have always been well proportioned. But I do think the last two are a bit forgettable.

All modern cars are a bit rough, it comes from all the design constraints these days. It's all subjective. I'd take my pug over most things, I think it's pretty well proportioned to be fair.

And the E90 M3, still a bit of a thing for those. Overall people just seem to dislike BMW's, it's irrational as there are far worse cars to drive for sure.

Some people always dislike popular things because they are trying to be different.

I don't dislike popular things I just think BMWs are ugly, I like Audis and think they look restrained and don't look out of place, and I think some Mercedes look ok, just not the c class with all its swag lines.

I liked all the Chris bangle era BMWs, just the latest ones are too bloated with massive grills, and the x5 has gone too square

Yeah, its ok to dislike popular things. But I think that some do it to appear "cool" and "trend setting" I am neither of those things!

Out of the current generation I think the 6 series gran coupe in M Sport trim looks the best. Overall though never really been a fan of BMW styling, but the E92 coupe was pretty much spot on.

I have a 4 series. I like the design. Wouldn't say it's ugly by any stretch. It's a bit more feminine than the 3 & 5 which gives it a more balanced look.

Some mentioned Audi. I find them far too safe and conservative looking, hence more "old man" looking in my view. Some people like that classic, safe look. Good for them

Audi, restrained, hmm. Not with you on that one, flared arches and chrome mirrors, always grate. I'm a fan of some RS's and the M's. Tbh I prefer them to most out there. Porsche, well, they're just a little bit safe and VW, just don't. All good cars though and hugely subjective IMO BMW are still making marmite cars, which I think is commendable in the current climate.

Of course it is. Anything based on appearance will be so.

That said, I must confess, to thinking you're in a tiny minority when it comes to the 3.0 CSL though.

I'm in the "almost all new cars are ugly" camp; it doesn't really seem fair to single out any one manufacturer in the mainstream. Mazda and Volvo make vaguely decent looking cars but past that, I can't think of many.

BMW do have one or two real shockers though, as do Mercedes.

It's not just BMW, although the 2 series Active Tourer thing deserves all the ridicule in the world. There's not many manufacturers making pretty (or even vaguely attractive) cars now. However, they are all operating with at least one arm tied behind their backs due to ever tighter legislation. It's the sheer size of cars now that is particularly frustrating! Especially when you meet a behemoth in a narrow lane, or try to park next to it in a Carpark space
